NOT Back To School Picnic Adventure

Another warm warm day! But before the real heat set in the whole family packed up and headed out for the HLSA NOT Back To School picnic. It was scheduled to start at 11 (which is when we got there) but things didn’t really pick up until an hour later so next year we will definitely plan on getting there later. We had to leave by 12:30 as Ken had to get back home to get back to work (doesn’t that just sound so good??). There was a juggler there who demonstrated contact juggling which he is teaching.

We got introduced (as a group) to the new HLSA president who was in turn interviewed by CBC.

And I made a new friend in person. Hilda had talked with me before online but amazingly enough the second person I said hi to when we got there was her! She has a 5 yr old girl and a 7yr old boy who the kids seemed to hit it off with. Along for the ride was her dayhome baby who is the same age as Trinity. Her husband was unable to make but I have great hopes that we will be able to plan a get together one weekend very soon.

Trinity was beyond ready for naptime when we got home so the boys glittered another set of wings each and then spent the hottest part of the day in the basement playing with the Legos. Hilda’s son had mentioned bike riding while the kids were playing so they were adamant we needed to bring out their bikes. So for a good 30 min the backyard was full of laughing and cycling little boys. It is just too hot out for more play than that in the direct sunlight. Finally even EMANUEL has figured out peddling (I do believe this birthday will be HIS bike birthday).

Homeschooling – official lesson-y stuff was put on hold for today. It was just too hot when we got home and no one was in the mood. So the letter F is put off until tomorrow, I will print out G and see if we get that far, but I think the boys are interested in glittering up some more pinecones. One of my friends on Facebook suggested making paper shapes and having them glitter glue that as well! Simple but if I use cardstock should make nice ornaments. So the creating goes on!

I kitted up a simple cross stitch for our friend Chris to try. It was actually kind of fun to get everything together. It is nice to have the chance to share one of my passions!

Definitely not a hugely busy or really productive day in many respects, but all in all a good one. I am just hoping that we are seeing the end of this truly hot weather, it is really hard on Trinity especially. It can be very difficult to be self motivating (let alone motivate the kids) in the heat. What a life!
