Charlaine Harris, A Book Review

WITH SPOILERS!

Now I am sure everyone is thinking Sookie Stackhouse… well, in all honesty, I am not a huge fan of THAT series… this time I came upon a first in another of her series! The Lily Bard Series and Shakespeare’s Landlord. I must warn you that that rape is discussed (the main character Lily is a survivor), as well as some violent abuse (a one time thing connected to the rape) and of course murder.

This book is centered on a woman who is a survivor. She has moved to the town of Shakespeare, Arkansas to start over and simply be Lily. The people in this story are down home regular people going about their daily lives… until a murder occurs! There is some sexual content though it is not dealt with in a way that is overly graphic. You get to see into Lily’s thoughts and impressions and follow her to work (as a cleaning lady through out the town) and see how she sees the rest of the townfolk.

I love how strong Lily is, and how well Charlaine Harrisdeals with the idea of her main character being a survivor of such a violent act. The male characters are not perfect or absolute gorgeous BUT they ARE interesting. I think, if you can handle the fact that there is the above topics included this is a GREAT read. I am definitely going to hunt down the others in the series!
