Shonisaurus

Woo this is a long sitting still post. I figure I might as well post these up!!! So while I recoup from a weekend of packing a friend to move, Memorial Day family time and other random over scheduling enjoy some dinosaur information that we did up way too too long ago with our dino fiend!

Emanuel has moved his interest to the oceans with marine reptiles and their unique visages. The Schonisaurus is a rather interesting looking carnivore. Found in the Triassic period it has an amazing number of fossils laying around. With razor sharp teeth and an elongated face this massive creature would have dominated the oceans though potentially was NOT a fast moving predator…

And now for videos… Check out The Largest Carnivorous Predator in Prehistory.

Catch a glimpse of our massive marine reptile on the commercial for 3D Sea Rex.

Dracorex

There dragons and then there are “real” dragons… Dracorex is a dinosaur that looks like a dragon… and the kids LOVED it! This carnivore has an amazing skull, are horns and bumps… A Cretaceous Period dinosaur this herbivore ran on two legs and is thought to be an animal that ran in herds. Found in South Dakota it was named by children with a reference to Harry Potter in the second half of its name.

Really main interest for our two intrepid dino hunters was how much it looked like a dragon!!

Our video is regarding the tv show Primeval… The Real Creatures of Primeval: Dracorex.

Pachycephalosaurus

So in celebration of FINALLY getting back on board with our (hopefully) daily dinosaurs with Emanuel I am posting a few of the ones that have been awaiting editing and such to go up on the site!!! So please enjoy a look back at our own personal paleontology internet dig.

Some dinosaurs are simply interesting to look at, and the head of the Pachycephalosaurus is no exception. Found in the forests of North America, this herbivore had some of the carnivore characteristics that remind us of the T Rex… the upright posture, the smaller front legs… From the Cretaceous period, this was the largest of its species and while its head could have been used to fight it is actually believed that the Pachycephalosaurus would have made use of its large hind legs by running away.

Now for videos… the first is a question and answer period with Dinosaur George. Sadly, the link he gives for the intriguing Dracorex does NOT work.

Our second video was an unrealistic but entertaining excerpt from a dinosaur game… Trinity and Emanuel enjoyed it at least.
