Abelisaurus

Dinosaurs were a world wide phenomena. The Abelisaurus was found in what is now Argentina, South America. This Cretaceous period dinosaur is a bit of a mystery as only one skull has been found which is badly damaged on the right side. A lot can be determined from this single skull though, combined with location and era. This carnivore had large holes in its skull called fenestrae above the jaw. It is likely these were present to lighten the weight of the head or to work as a sound amplifier or olfactory sensors.

We have TWO videos regarding this dinosaur. The first from I’m a Dinosaur.

And the second another How to Draw by 123Peppy.

Now for our links. This potentially down scaled Tyrannosaurus Rex has limited information available, but EnchantedLearning has a fact sheet HERE. For an estimated size comparison to a human being you can check out The Dino Directory HERE. Prehistoric Wildlife has a brief article HERE. DinosaurKing has general statistics HERE. Animal Planet has an interesting colour rendition of the head of the Abelisaurus HERE. Dinosaurs.about.com covers our dinosaur HERE. Wiki has an article HERE. We got our colouring page from the blog Dinosaur of the Week: Armchair Paleontology HERE.

Zuniceratops

The kids were rather sure this was a TRIceratops until they realized that it had TWO horns over its eyebrows and not a third. This herbivore was found in the USA during the Cretaceous period and is considered to be one of the earliest horned dinosaurs. A familiar looking but different dinosaur to be sure!

Two videos for this one, I’m a Dinosaur and a part of When Dinosaurs Roamed America.

We really did not have many links about this dinosaur. We took the main picture off of The Dino Directory HERE for our colouring page. Secret of the Horned Dinosaur has a page on this early version HERE. EnchantedLearning has a fact sheet HERE. You can learn more about the Zuniceratops on Dinosaurs.about.com HERE. DinosaurKing covers this herbivore HERE and Wiki has their article HERE.

Torvosaurus

This “savage lizard” is one of the largest known Jurassic therapods. The Torvosaurus is found in North America and is a rather intimidating carnivore. There is some debate as to whether or not it is actually a dinosaur on its own or a version of another due to the lack of a complete skeleton. An intimidating and fierce dinosaur Emanuel was quick to point out that it looks A LOT like a T Rex!

So again, two videos! We started with I’m a Dinosaur and ended with a short fight video of the Torvosaurus vs an Allosaurus!

Ok ok time for the links! Dino Directory sets up up with a great visual on the size of this beast HERE. The Dinopedia covers our dinosaur HERE. DinosaurKing has some stats HERE. Dinosaurs.about.com has an article HERE. EnchantedLearning has a fact sheet HERE. Carnivora has an entry HERE about our dinosaur. Wiki has their say HERE and you can find our colouring page HERE we actually used our NHM link for that.
