October 22-24

We are onto our next big countdown – HALLOWEEN! Where has the year gone??? First Halloween, then Thanksgiving (American) and then CHRISTMAS! I am so not ready! We started our day with a gift… Gammie has already started sending the Christmas presents to hide until THE DAY and included in the boxes have been a few extras… I think we opened a couple the week before. But this one was a request item… a tiny ring-tailed lemur. Only our VERY FAVOURITE of all the animals really. This one was a dog toy so Echo is totally enamoured with it… it SQUEAKS!

With our regular morning routine accomplished Nana, myself and the girls had a special errand to accomplish. The weather has of course changed over to fall and sandals are out. Both girls have grown and honestly Echo has never had a true pair of sneakers… so off we were to find some! Kohl’s had a 30% off coupon and Nana was on a mission. Two stores later and a worn out Echo and we were MORE than successful. Not only did we find adorable LIGHT UP shoes for each but we ALSO found coats for the cousins AND long sleeved MINECRAFT themed shirts for the boys! Add to that lunch at McDonald’s and our girly time was a total success!!! Thank you Nana!!! (Oh, did I mention… matching adorable 3 piece girly outfits for the ladies themselves!)

Gavin actually requested a special mini project for himself – pictures, video and (my input) a short story about ring-tailed lemurs. We watched a National Geographic video.

And Globalzoo’s video simply titled The Ring-Tailed Lemur.

We hit midweek with not too much drama. Special movie time though – Monsters Vs. Aliens.

And a science project with Daddy dealing with oil and water and why polar bears are not cold! Again spot the secondary parental teacher!!!

There was even time for some play time, chaotic and totally us!

BUT even more important… KEN TURNED 36!!! Since I am on a total spending freeze there was no present buying… so the kids and I wrote stories, drew pictures and yours truly wrote a letter for him which we made into a book. I do love handmade creations and the words in that book came from all of us to him with love.

After celebrating a very special birthday it was time to move onto a big completion… our Egypt unit made its way (finally) onto the poster. We worked together and did our very best to showcase our Ancient Egypt fun! Of course I have a reference blog entry that you can check out HERE.

We ended our day with making white paint footprints we will later make into ghostly images.

I am well pleased with our progress in almost everything! We have our ups and downs but if I can look  back and recount these positive moments I KNOW we are doing it right!!!!

October 7-9

Even with intermittent rain and cooler weather we had to get our buns outside…

And follow through with some lovely Halloween themed crafts to finish off our day of school.

Even Miss Echo created some lovely art.

And I finally got a good picture of our flower changing colour with our dyed water.

We rounded off the day with a Wild Kratts.

Mid week and 2 days from the return of Nana and Baba… We had some lovely Halloween fairies for the girls.

The kids had a gaming afternoon in the sunshine. So much cooperation and problem solving skills!

We got a start on our Egypt poster… with the return of family and so much going on I am not optimistic about a quick assembly but it is going to be awesome when we are all done!

Thursday has Miss Trinity the focus again with ANOTHER completed book! She zoomed through these. I have some research to do on what books I need to line up for her. Amazingly enough I am short on the Kindergarten level books!

I love this… Echo was wearing the Halloween shirt that her twin brothers wore when they were 2!!!

The twins helped me clean out milk jugs for our Halloween decorations… then the boys all worked on making faces. Now all we need to do is weight them down and add the lights. I got this idea off Facebook!

We had our final grandparent free evening at home, quietly, like we had spent most of our time while they were gone… I think the kids are ready… they cleaned and everything instead of some of their schooling all to be ready for Nana and Baba!!!

October 2-6

I swear we are on the road to completions lately! Following up on Trinity’s math workbook finishing Emanuel wowed us with his Addition book being done! Well done my boy!

We have also started our story starters with the twins… I am hoping we can make up a nice series of stories all by the boys written by themselves. I simply check the spelling and correct it underneath. I am finding their creative spelling quite amusing!

I need to type some of these out… not too bad on the mistakes even!

It was rather exciting to actually finish our Lions unit! The assembly was not the quickest but we had a blast doing it! Be sure to check out our resource post HERE.

With October comes Halloween so we had to work on our black paper drawings. This time we are working on smaller images to include in our garland making.

Thursday was another rainy day so out came the rainy day fun bucket, folder games and anything else I could think of to spread across the floor and get the kids playing and learning and keep them from fighting!

Emanuel is working hard on his math! Friday had us working on the BIG math book… the same I did with the twins (a Canadian book), it is rather interesting to see how he picks up on some things faster just for watching his older brothers!

Egypt made another showing with another story.

And Echo built us a house!

Our weekend was a special one! First Saturday of the month – HOME DEPOT! This month the craft of choice was airplanes! Talk about fun!

They were so excited I couldn’t get the pic to focus!!!

Gavin made me a slurpee out of Legos too!!

Sunday School had the twins bringing mustard seeds home in tiny adorable jars.

So not the most exciting weekend… but we make do and make memories! Oh… and eat a melon fresh out of the garden!
