Seeking Spring

April 7-9

Sometimes it is fun to curl up under a blanket and watch shows together.101_6704

Especially when we have a Wild Kratts to enjoy. That third season is finally out. New animals!!!

We had a fun spring/Easter themed book to read and draw a picture from.101_6706

And Miss Echo took a dress up break. She is definitely our princess of the day.101_6707

The kids did a venn diagram comparing what we know about Jesus and the Easter Bunny to see what sort of celebrations and such corresponded… things like bright colours and family together time of course.101_6708

Emanuel and Daddy snuck out to get spiffy… brand new haircuts! Though the lady did go shorter than we usually like with our curly haired boy.101_6709

That left the twins to follow suit with showing off their buzz cuts thanks to Daddy!101_6710

That evening we sat down and built our next science kit… a solar car. Sadly the next day when we tried it out it was not very willing to drive. Ken figures some tweaking is required. So I brought out the tiny solar grasshopper we got last year on a steal.101_6711

101_6712On Tuesday we gave a new method of egg dying a spin… Volcano eggs. You mix the dye (liquid) with baking soda using a bit of water, spread it on the eggs like paint and then add vinegar and watch the fizz. We used our plastic eggs that we picked up at Walmart though the results were not brilliant. I need to check into different dyes and the like for next year. The fizzing did please all! Who doesn’t love a good volcano activity?? We found our original instructions on Toddler Approved HERE.101_6714

101_6715Emanuel has started earning arrow points for Scouts. One of the ones they are doing with the den is a puzzle. They each have a part of it to assemble on their own and bring in a couple weeks to the meeting! Exciting!101_6716

We had a lovely sunny day to enjoy and a trip to Sam’s to take so photos first in the sunshine and then off we went.101_6717

We have been talking about the religious roots of Easter lately. The kids are starting to grasp the full life of Jesus now and it is interesting to see and hear how that impacts what they figure THEY should do – be kind, share His story, share…101_6730

We had planned to do family photos but with the snow still apparent I settled for some cute ones with the girls.101_6734

101_6737Echo then played in the sun room while the kids took their recess and played out in the backyard. It truly is starting to look like spring… so far.101_6740

101_6739Emanuel had his big wheel out…101_6742

The grass in our dish is starting to grow…101_6744

And we even found time for another chapter of Treasure Island…101_6745

An Easter themed storytime…101_6746

And a Wild Kratts!

Spring is here at least for the moment and we are trying to face every moment with a smile and our best intentions. New life, new start, new us!

October 17-18

We ended our school day one day early on the  Thursday as Gabbi and Zachary had a day off and were planning to spend it here on the Friday. Having a solid pattern to our mornings of spelling, reading, writing and math has made it easier and easier to get through our schooling. Especially the first half of the day.

We had some packages show up this week from Gammie and a few were OPEN NOW! So of course… we HAD TO follow the instructions!101_4809

Our remaining scruffy duo went out with Baba for haircuts.101_4812

With all the kids here and the weather cooling on Friday it was time to start dismantling the straw bale garden. Potatoes had to be removed and the bales moved into the hole (from last year’s tree removal) for compost.101_4822

101_4816The colours of fall in Minnesota are gorgeous… I doubt anyone would debate that one with me. And we have some amazing trees in the backyard that are supposedly always late to change. I cannot wait to share some pictures of that!101_4830

The yield from the final harvest of the straw bale garden was rather amazing. TONS of potatoes and a pile of green tomatoes that Nana then used (with strawberry jello) to make a rather amazingly yummy red jelly! Who would have thought it??? There was some red tomatoes to boot!101_4815

101_4838101_4836101_4840We also cut our last melons in half… the larger of the two watermelons turned out VERY tasty just way too tiny.101_4842

101_4845We ended our evening with the kids making homemade ice cream! What a difference salt on ice makes to temperature and then rattling that around on our ice cream mixture! NOMS!101_4848

101_4850101_4851These are the moments that remind me how much FUN family can be… how it doesn’t matter what is going on if inside the house we can remember to learn and love and live in a positive manner! Enjoy the rest of our fall images!

Welcoming the Helping Hands

October 14-16

Seriously I don’t think I can plug Art for Kids site hard enough. It is our go to place for drawing anything and everything… and right now they are well centered in the Halloween spirit.101_4789

With Daddy’s help Monday also centered on a new science project. This time making our own frost using a metal bowl, ice and salt.101_4792

We also made Echo her very own Princess hat!101_4793

On Tuesday the twins and Nana had a baking/science session making pumpkin muffin/cupcakes using a recipe she found online with canned pumpkins and cake mix. We are loving the time together with everyone learning more about the world around us!101_4796

101_4797Then we crafted it up with the Perler Beads… some days fun is the way to educate!101_4798

With some time on our hands and lots of hands to help the twins were also able to get some rather spiffy haircuts! Short short short.101_4799

Mid week was another day of happy learning with Ken having the time to read with the kids! These special moments have been so rare lately and now, I am pleased to say… Daddy involvement has made a return appearance. It is so wonderful to have another hand involved in our schooling. It gets lonely being a solo teacher at times.101_4801

We took over the basement this time and sprawled out everywhere…101_4802

That included our bedroom for reading time. I love how they go off ON THEIR OWN and share this joy with the younger ones.101_4803

Zander and Gavin even helped Nana with dinner. HAMBURGERS made by my brilliant boys.101_4804
