Stegosaurus

I was so shocked and embarrassed to see that we had not yet covered the very popular and familiar Stegosaurus! This herbivore has quite the memorable visual with its large plates and barbs on its tail… and the beak mouth without any teeth. Found in the Jurassic Period with an unusually small brain the actual reason behind the plates along its back has been long discussed (And is talked about in an episode of Dino Dan. There are actually multiple episodes that deal with this dinosaur on the Canadian/American show).

We had two videos. The I’m a Dinosaur video and then a series from the Discovery channel that you can view HERE.

There are plenty of links regarding this very popular dinosaur but here are the ones we used, let’s go with a list…

  1. EnchantedLearning HERE
  2. Dinosaurs.about.com HERE
  3. Kidsdigdinos.com HERE
  4. Kids-Dinosaurs.com HERE
  5. Jurassic Times HERE
  6. Science Kids HERE
  7. We did not have time to get into this much BUT I felt I should share Stegosaurus.org HERE
  8. Wiki HERE
  9. Our colouring page another of Zakafreakarama on deviantArt HERE, be sure to check out his personal page HERE.

And there you are, a nice selection to get you going in your dinosaur adventures!

Stegosaurus

Cetiosaurus

The Cetiosaurus was a misunderstood dinosaur for a long period of time simply due to the massive size of its vertebrae. In fact, it was mistakenly believed to be a whale. From the late Jurassic period this large dinosaur was found in England and Europe. Its limbs were solid and stubby and its tail long. This was a dinosaur that would have weighed tons and was VERY primitive.

We had one video for this dinosaur – I’m a Dinosaur.

Surprisingly for a dinosaur that roamed all over Europe there are not that many links to share. I will start with our colouring page HERE. Emanuel really enjoyed this one as the giant herbivore was only one in a scene of dinosaurs. Animal Planet has a lengthy article HERE. DinosaurKing has some general statistics HERE. KidsDinos has the usual charts HERE. Dinosaurs.about.com touches on our dinosaur HERE. EnchantedLearning has a fact sheet HERE. And finally, Wiki has their article HERE.

All 3 brothers got in on this one!

Massospondylus

With a mouthful of a name the Massospondylus is a rather interesting looking herbivore that was almost thought to be a carnivore! With its 5 fingered hands and odd teeth this Jurassic period dinosaur is a lightweight with its hollow bones and air sacs. Its name means Massive Vertebrae and its neck is full of them.

We had two videos for this dinosaur… our usual I’m a Dinosaur and a rather interesting and unique how to draw a Massospodylus that I really suggest watching. While you really are not being taught HOW to do it yourself, but watching an amazing dinosaur artist at work!

And now for our links. I have a helpful Dino Directoy link HERE. I think we would enjoy their museum immensely. Dinosaurs.about.com has their say HERE. EnchantedLearning has a fact sheet HERE. Kiddinos.com has their usual charts etc. about this large dinosaur HERE. We took our colouring page from the EnchantedLearning site HERE, and our Wiki page about this dinosaur can be found HERE. So, not a huge amount of information but a starting point for your dinosaur enthusiast!

I think I asked him to say the name.. what a face!
