Today We Learn…

Tuesdays are many things – garbage day, the second day of the week… our first really focused school day of the week when we take the weekend off. This Tuesday you have to add in some sort of stomach bug/cold thing. Nothing extreme just Emanuel, Echo and myself feeling a little under the weather. Though Emanuel felt bad enough to suggest in the morning that he NOT go to the library!!!

This has not slowed our learning about the Inuit people. I have even MORE videos to share with you all today! Including the interesting fact that what we call an Inukshuk generally (the one that looks like a person) is NOT called that by the Inuit. Instead they have another word for them that mean false person!

And an interesting piece on hunting and fishing that the boys really enjoyed.

And a very interesting and informative pod cast about Inuit games! I love the creativity and not a single battery to be seen!!

Zander and Ken are still battling out math but today he did a marvelous job reading his Starfall story to go with his book. I am so thankful that someone passed these books along. The site does not require a membership for the stories the books cover so he is able to work his way through without costing me more cash. I honestly cannot thank people enough for passing along their unused and unwanted things for our children. Last night Karyn dropped off some items a co-worker didn’t need for her kids anymore. We actually held some of those back for their birthday! We honestly would not have such a fun school area (ok house) without the generosity of friends, acquaintances and family!

Working on his reading

We had haircuts tonight with the amazing Cousin Elizabeth who Gavin says must do ALL their haircuts. That meant a visit and TREATS! Such a talented cousin I have!

Post haircut treats!

So cute!!!

I have been working on a baby necklace. I now have a VERY good reason to purchase more beads as I am about out of my cute and fun shaped ones. Though I have enough alphabet ones to make sentences! I haven’t done a nursing necklace in a while so this was a fun change of pace! I forgot how much I enjoy working with beads and patterns! Time to check out Dollarama. For some reason they tend to have reasonably priced beads.

Beads

Trinity and Karyn made it to the library and back again without incident. I opted to stay home with cranky baby and wait for our spectacular hairdresser. I am working on multiple crafts right now anyway and Echo was in a horrible mood with her runny nose and slight fever. Now I have a list of crafts to complete, tidying to do AND the movie Clue on Netflix to watch!

Just a little smile to close with

A Brief Check In

Well thank goodness we pride ourselves on flexibility… our conservatory trip has been moved to tomorrow after Echo’s Public Health 4 week weigh in. Apparently programming is just like that. BUT since today was cool and cloudy and Echo and myself still slightly ailing from that mild tummy bug I am not complaining.

Our plan for tomorrow is to head off to Public Health for about 9:30 then down to the south end, stopping first at the conservatory and then to the shops. Hopefully we can get all of our errands done in one morning and return in time for Emanuel and Trinity’s nap. (something we ended up skipping today – definitely NOT the best idea)

This morning we continued with our folders, I was able to (before the black ink ran out) print out a math and reading activity for the twins that works in our dinosaur theme. This was a bit more complex than the previous stuff… a picture cut up like a paint by numbers only the numbers are addition equations. So first we had to sound out the words next to the numbers to find out what colour each number is and THEN do the math to find out what each section should be coloured. I am finding that Gavin needs more confidence in his answers. He seems to be rather unsure if he is right even though each time we talked about it he basically was. So definitely a link to share!! I printed out one of each of the 4 images and gave each boy 2. They will go into our group dinosaur folder when we are done.

At the table (Gavin front)

Zander and Trinity spent some of their time in the backyard picking up apples and playing. Sweaters already. Feels like summer was over in a blink!

We had postponed our weekly veg and fruit run to today… which is another no no since we have programmed ourselves to buy just enough fruit for the week so yesterday was fruit free… except for the apples off the tree which is so not the same! I think we bought our last pineapple for the season – they are up over 3.00 a piece now. I am not hugely fond of pineapple anywhere but on pizza (where Ken HATES it), but the rest of the family love the fresh stuff.

I have to admit I still wake up each day with that little jolt of surprise and joy that I am the Mommy of FIVE little ones… the fact that we have been blessed with TWO little girls is also surreal. My mom pointed out to me soon after Echo was born that we have reversed the family she grew up in! Her two brothers were born first and then three sisters! I always knew I wanted a large family but it always seemed like something that was so far away. And here we are… a large and (mostly) happy family. It feels… right… wonderful and right!

Now if I could just finish off some of these Echo projects I would be a happy woman! Back to the nursing necklace and stocking I go.

Had to share this one!
