Ghost of a Chance… a Book Review

Facing the death of her mother Natalie Scott is in need of change. Leaving her younger brother in the family home Natalie decides to rent a seaside cottage to take some needed time for herself. Instead of the wished for peace and quiet she gets Karl Messer who won’t rent her the cottage unless they go on a date, her brother Trevor who puts his foot down about her taking his dog with her (another requirement on the lease) and finally Sean O’Shea, resident ghost who ends up falling in love with her. What’s worse is that it is at this point that ex boyfriend Rick Dalton shows up ready to rekindle the relationship he figured never really ended.

With so many men in her life and complications at work what is a girl to do? Ghost of a Chance by Emma Daniels is the first in the Ghost Series. (The Second is Giving Up the Ghost). This paranormal romance has quite the muddle for our main character to work through. Her job is threatened by her initially unwanted association with one man only to have others show up equally unwanted. I did feel a little sorry for the ghost who really was NOT the focus of the story. But the dishy love interest is worth a read and the ending is rather leading making me debate reading #2 when my book list shortens a little! If you are looking for fluff and silly this is definitely the book for you!

Ghost of a Chance

Christmas With An Angel

Back into my comfort zone and the well read regency romance. BUT with this one there is a twist… the story begins with a death… the death of our Lord’s wife. Just in time for him to realize how badly he had treated her. With a broken heart our hero to be settles in to spend Christmas drinking his sorrows away only break a angel statue, a gift he gave to his wife that she had left behind, and from the shattered pieces appears his beloved wife… there to teach him to live and love properly but only for a day…

Emily has been sent by an angel to heal Nathan’s heart and allow him to love her and himself properly without malice and ill humours. They travel (on Emily’s suggestion) out of London for Christmas Eve on the suggestion of an angel and our story continues from there. There is some minor sexual content but well within the realm of a loving (now) couple… Nathan calls Emily his bride and showers her with not gifts but emotions and compassionate gestures as she teaches him to stop being selfish and look for the joy and support of others.

There are moments of joy and heartbreak, sweetness and life in the face of death and a parting. I love the growth of Nathan and the rebirth of their marriage and how this journey impacts the people around them in the small village they travel to. Love in the face of separation… joy in the living in the moment. What a wonderful story with a bit of a twist ending! Eugenia Riley does an amazing job with this Paranormal Romance Christmas With An Angel.

Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble…a Book Review

I know, I know again with the magical books… but I what I read I review and today I finally got around to completing H.P. Mallory’s book from her paranormal romance series. The first in her Jolie Wilkins series. Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble was a bit of a difficult read for me. The main character is Jolie who is a psychic in a small town, she works with her friend Christa without letting her mother know exactly WHAT she does. That is until a warlock (Rand) shows up and things go crazy from there.

I have to say that I found quite a bit of frustration with the constant references to sex and lust while no relationship really pans out until near the end. This is NOT a happily ever after as the ending is as open ended almost as the beginning. There are some very interesting characters ad you learn a lot about all the varied supernatural beings but honestly I was concerned this would make it to my never completed list… I am not sure that I will look for the next book in the series but if you want a relatively fun read with a lot of go go go and some lusty bits… this could be the book for you!!
