Setting Some Goals and a Visitor Arrives!

June 6-8

There is something about the Canadian Flag that the girls just LOVE colouring. Over and over and OVER again!101_7818

But we also did our Summertime School Goals. The twins are programming based and the two littles are reading based. I am hoping if we cannot accomplish them in the summer span of time we can AT LEAST make inroads on them.101_7819

101_7820And then for the BIG excitement… Uncle Sean is here for a short visit after doing a training session down in Minneapolis. The kids were over the moon and even Echo remembered Uncle Sean on sight!101_7821

He brought gifts…101_7822

And had a nap… it was just like being back up north. It did rather throw school out the window… willingly! Nothing like a Canadian guest to perk everyone up!101_7823

Saturday afternoon was a pre planned (before Sean’s trip) visit over to Chris and Renee’s house to play with the boys. They have a terrific backyard with a playset not unlike ours.101_7825

We had baby time…101_7824

Drinks for the adults…101_7826

101_7827And lovely retro toys brought out of the crawl space for the girls to share with Renee.

101_7829101_7830While the guys were bbqing we also had sparklers and some small fireworks to set off. Dinner was delicious and the kids were all sad to have to say good bye.

101_7831101_7835101_7837101_7839Sunday morning was an equally important engagement… we were expected to make it in time to watch Anthony play in part of his tournament. They played hard and won their match.101_7843

The kids had a blast playing with Aidan…101_7849

And we got some amazing action shots of one of our favourite soccer players! Anthony is playing even better this year. Training has paid off and it is amazing watching him run his hardest and play his best game after game!101_7844

101_7846101_7852101_7853101_7855101_7857101_7861Then home to spend the evening with Sean. The best of both worlds – outside fun and a friend to sit around at home and catch up with!!101_7863101_7868

After the Visit Blues

November 13-15

The day after company leaves is always a hard one. No one is motivated and most of us are far from happy. The kids lost an avid storyteller and willing listener. She even WROTE her own story to add to the stack the twins have been creating. (Mommy blew that one, I should have been writing the dates on the stories but instead have a stack of lovely and varied ones I will put in a book and keep regardless) Of course we had to journal all about our visit with Karyn and the fun we had.

Ken decided that now was as good a time as any to start teaching the twins Python programming. He has two VERY excited boys – they not only get to learn more computer stuff BUT they get Daddy’s undivided attention while they do!101_5241

I took advantage of this time to work on our Grocery unit with the two littles. We have been working on healthy and not so healthy foods, balanced meals, and of course read some terrific stories.101_5242

Miss Echo stole BACK the netbook eventually and gave it a go herself. Just a bitty future programmer maybe? Hacker? More likely knowing her mischievous streak.101_5243

Thursday morning we simply had to take advantage of another relatively sunny and not too cold day. There are going to be less and less after all!101_5246

101_5247101_5248After running and playing themselves out it was back to work. The littles are still loving their grocery unit! Gotta clip out the foods for a pretend grocery list!101_5250

101_5252More programming…101_5253

AND being THANKFUL. I do love how we all come together to add our daily item. This poster is then going to go up in the boys’ room.101_5255

We ended our week sunny so most of the day was outside. Leaves to deal with, warm time to enjoy… I figured it best to do our basic stuff and then turn around and run run run.101_5258

I am so grateful for Karyn’s visit. Before this one came about and was planned it was looking like it would be more than a year between visits. We lucked out with her mom giving her all the extra air miles and Karyn’s work being willing to do without her for that week.

As We Count Down the Days…

Teaching styles can differ so! Today Ken worked to set aside time to be teacher to the boys instead of yours truly. They are learning the basics of programming and he is much more laid back and restive in his position in relation to where they are sitting! But were the boys ever EXCITED about Daddy being in charge!

Boy time

Today’s addition to the advent village was an unexpected one – a windmill! Though I am rather sure I will run out of laminating papers before I finish this project I am doing what I can and will finish the rest post season! Be sure to check out the Activity Village Advent Calendar… it is so much fun!

We got another word out of Echo today – UP! She is quite the accomplished climber now, up into the kids’ blue chairs… and FEARLESS! But still not up to the basement stairs (thank goodness!). Our little mini baby.

YAY

BUS!

Our weekly pj library time was squashed by Trinity’s runny nose. Instead I figured it best to have her ride out the cold here at home in preparation for our party on Sunday.

We decided to combine today and tomorrow’s Advent crafts into tomorrow morning. Today’s was making a snowman out of a sock! I found two versions quite by accident… first is the Activity Village one, and the other TipJunkie. I am  taking some of each and letting the kids decide – do they want eyes? sequins? etc etc… I like the TipJunkie’s all one piece over the two socks and I did use a toddler sock! Should be fun tomorrow with the decorating! And tomorrow’s craft… well wait and see!

Ready for decoration

Ken and Emanuel and I did our SECOND Emanuel craft today… all that is left is a dress Santa sticker set and the facts of interest for us to read tomorrow but it has been fun! Today was making a reindeer out of paper, pom pom and googly eyes. Emanuel was VERY amazed at the need for TWO hands but only ONE foot and drew his own large smile!

Today’s video is a cute one… I think  I posted one of this cute little bear a week or so back but here he is again! The kids LOVED this one!
