Small-Town Midwife… a Book Review

Another library find… the Love Inspired “Heartwarming Inspirational Romance” books have been a win win for me lately. Small-Town Midwife by Jean C. Gordon was a joy to read. A contemporary romance about a midwife who has lost her confidence and a doctor who has way too much. There is a Christian mission to contemplate, family and friends to enjoy and a good solid romance with some history between the two.

I especially enjoyed the people around these two main characters. Autumn the Midwife and Dr. Jonathon Hanlon who is trying to find his way himself. Like others I have read in this series of more sedate Harlequin books there is a good Christian message, a finding of faith and love. The romance is not graphic and the pace smooth.

If you are interested in small community stories with a bit of passion, a lot of love and a touch of faith this could be the book for you! Everyone has their secrets and sometimes all it takes is a little sharing to find peace.51yGL-TvXLL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_

Jingle Bell Blessings… a Book Review

So the romance section of my local library worked in my favour once again with this Love Inspired romance by Bonnie K. Winn. Jingle Bell Blessings is a wonderful inspirational romance all based around “A Little Boy’s Christmas Wish” as was written on the back of the book. Sweet Jimmy Evans is an orphan in need of a family all his own. Chloe Reed was the woman charged with helping him find one. Everyone has their reasons and history and Chloe and Jimmy’s distant relation Evan Mitchell are no different.

A broken family definitely in need of a sad and heartbroken young boy. Chloe is sure she can help Evan see the light. And Evan is equally sure there is no place in his busy life for a young child. This is a story of loss and heartbreak, redemption and love. All wrapped up with faith and peace.

Christmas is the perfect setting for this romance. Bonnie K. Winn shows how a man haunted by the past and weighted down by an uncertain future cannot only find peace but possibly love and a new start. If you are in need of something to read on a snowy evening this is a lovely cozy romance with a touch of mystery. I truly enjoyed this story. A lovely Christian contemporary romance.9781472022295

Cafenova… a Book Review

Cafenova, a Clairmont Series book by S. Jane Scheyder is a lovely Christian romance with a contemporary setting. The story centers on Maddy who has recently had an engagement end badly and moved out to the East Coast to start over with her own B&B. In order to afford such a venture she had to take on an absolute fixer upper which leads us to her contractor – John, single father of  two young boys. With Burt the large and loveable dog it is a recipe for success.

While I love this book, there is a random hyphen (-) issue and I found it a little odd that every time a door in the house closed the author wrote it banged! I mean I understand the emphasis on how it closed (if you can’t tell by my normal script that is italicized), but after a while it was almost like seeing a book title or real life store name. Exclamation point and all.

The Christian aspect does become more prominent as the story goes on but it is heartfelt. There is some confusion and complication with the romance but, really, is a romance that runs smoothly from start to finish all that interesting to read? Another point in the favour of this contemporary is the lack of sexual scenes. Instead the characters are quite up front about their need to be mature and careful about their relationship (Maddy due to her personal perspective and ruined relationship and John his two adorable sons).

Forgiveness is a pretty strong theme in this book, as is being responsible with your relationship and how you progress. For some this may seem a little stiff but it felt rather real that they would discuss their wish to be intimate in the right (for them) setting. I honestly enjoyed this book from start to finish. There are moments you worry along with our characters that love may not win out, your heart feels for their struggles and giggles with them as well. If you are interested in a nice Christian message (as it does become more focal towards the end) with a lovely romance this is a definite should read.
