3 Days Wrapped Up in One Entry

April 15-17

Halfway through the week and we are most definitely filling up on our penguin knowledge. With 4 videos under our belt about 3 of the people Mr. Popper named his new baby penguins after!

Get well soon cards for Captain Cook

Christopher Columbus, the namesake of the penguin Columbus.

Ferdinand Magellan, the namesake of Ferdinand

And TWO on Robert Falcon Scott, the namesake of Scott.

So at home and in the learning mode… there is a bit to share… THREE extra books! First off Face to Face With Penguins by Yva Momatiuk and John Eastcott.

Future activists…

Then If You Were a Penguin by Wendell and Florence Minor. So much cuteness… I had the kids each draw what they would do if they were a penguin. Trinity’s was more impressionist… with the water and the fish indicating that is where she would BE if she was one, swimming in the ocean.

What would YOU do?

And Life Cycle of a Penguin by Lisa Trumbauer.

Life Cycle of a Penguin

The boys illustrated their special pets from chapter 2, this time how it would look if they took them for walks!

Walking exotic pets

Emanuel made his own how to with drawing a dinosaur.

Dimetrodon

Art for Kids just keeps inspiring us, Emanuel was inspired by Gavin’s instructions to make a special robot crab.

Lasers!

I was impressed by the Lego penguins!

Adorable

We worked on colour combinations and groups these past 3 days as well. I love that Zander’s is of a dragon from the app Dragonvale that he picked out due to the (to him now) obvious use of the warm colours.

Colours!

We also discussed how snowflakes come about and made our own special snowflake page.

Snowflakes

Gavin has taken a real liking to pastels. He has been working on his shading and usage with the help of Art For Kids!

Shamrock

Of course, some of the family just wanted NAPS!

Zzzzz

And then some more creativity.

Colouring fiend

With alphabetizing to do…

Get those penguin babies in order!!

I think we have done rather well for 3 days at home!!! I am really looking forward to sharing everything we have found link wise, on penguins! It is a substantial amount!!

So much fun!

Mid Week and Onward!

January 16-17

At home for 2 days but definitely not completely idle! There is still much to learn and time to spend with Aunty Karyn during her visit. So of course I must share! We are a little constrained with the need to be home with the kids and Ken working long into the evening but I think we made do. I do have to admit, the bulk of our time was spent sitting around just hanging out together… much like we used to up in Alberta… I really needed that… quiet, productive crafting (on my side – slippers) time with a good FEMALE friend…

I managed to snag a great dinosaur related app on a day when it was free thanks to Facebook. With over 120 dinosaurs Emanuel was in dinosaur picture HEAVEN. Some of them can even be moved 360 degrees!

Enjoying the dinosaurs

We had a new Art for Kids illustration to create – a rose… something to practice before Valentine’s day!

Zander’s rose

Gavin and his flower

Of course Ken finally found some time the next morning to help the boys with some beautiful snowflakes. Still rather square but I am so impressed by their cutting skills. And I do love a pretty snowflake!

Working with Daddy

So pretty

Trinity spent BOTH days working with Karyn to start AND complete a workbook! She wore out Aunty before she was done the day before and pushed through to finish the next… a serious learning machine.

Proud completion

With an evening with Ken at home and our being home for the day… well we had fun, we learned and we simply spent time together. And honestly, that was more than enough for me!

Advent Continues

I figured that with posting the video from our pageant I should also post the words our little ones said!! So here goes! First off Zander and his portion of the nativity story:

From Luke 2 (though we dropped a line or so)… In those days a decree went out from Emperor Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration.

Emanuel’s little poemy thing (that Trinity does know a bit too!)…

Jesus is sleeping *shh shh*

Asleep in the manger *shh shh*

Mary and Joseph look down and pray

On this special Christmas day

So it was back to relative Advent normal this morning… houses to colour for our village (and a boat load of laminating for mommy who had gotten behind!)… and a new craft. I honestly had thought we had run out of ways to make snowflakes but this is VERY cute! Though we substituted the sticky tack with hot glue for more permanence.

Of course NONE of them showing the gems but they ARE pretty

We are but a week away from our Christmas party here at the house. Something we are ALL looking forward to. I have a cake to bake, a house to tidy… a couple last minute presents to complete… at least the list is not horrible in length!

And a success! Zander with a full page and a half of CORRECT printing practice!

The weekly freebie from Currclick is a fun one! It is a series of Christmas themed word searches – easy level! Check it out here! I printed them out two to a page and made a mini book for the boys to do as they wanted over the week! If you are looking for a bit of a twist on the colour by numbers… here is a colour by words! You can download it here

Gavin used one of Emanuel’s Lego books and made a rainbow collection of the dinosaurs.

I do believe he made 5 in total! Gavin is REALLY good at following instructions to make these sorts of things

I made a run out to Dollarama with Karyn and Lauralee today. They have lovely Christmas themed gift bags for only .50 cents a piece AND we needed socks for tomorrow’s craft. But tonight it was Emanuel’s night… the company I ordered his mini activity pack is revamping so you can’t order from them but I lucked out and got the Christmas themed one before that occurred. It has a couple activities and some reading. Today we did the paper chain activity… 13 days until Christmas!!

Proud Daddy AND son!

Fat Sheep is still updating her blog! so be sure to check her out HERE. And here is a girly picture just to round out the images for tonight.

Working together (note the crown still there!)

Sadly the video of the pageant is going to have to follow late tonight/early tomorrow morning… it is a HUGE file and slowly loading on Youtube… BUT enjoy this little informational about snowflakes! We did!
