Herrerasaurus

Found in the Triassic period, this early theropod was a dominante predator in Argentine (South America). The Herrerasaurus had short forearms with claws on its fingers. 3 partial fossils have been found and it is not until the 80’s that a skull was recovered. To date this dinosaur is one of the earliest known to roam the earth! Quite the interesting critter.

We have TWO videos… first I’m a Dinosaur…

…and second, a drawing video by Brooks Leibee.

And now for the links… Jurassic park has our dinosaur HERE. The EnchantedLearning fact sheet is HERE. Kidsdinos.com has their charts and map HERE. Of course Dinosaurs.about.com has their usual set up HERE. Animal Planet has an article HERE. UCMP has an article with links to lecture notes HERE. Britannica has an article HERE and of course you can check out Wiki right HERE. Our colouring page is from deviantArt and our favourite dinosaur artist Zakafreakarama. You can find the page HERE and his page HERE.

Scutellosaurus

Sometimes I wonder at  the names of these dinosaurs, but they do make Emanuel giggle as we both try and wrap our mouths around them. This herbivore is a bit on the small side, but is a little unique in so far as it seems to have walked on both two and four feet. The Scutellosaurus really is an unusual looking herbivore.

We had a couple videos to watch to Emanuel’s joy! First, of course, is I’m a Dinosaur.

And secondly, a cute kid made video using dinosaur figurines.

There were a few links of interest on this versatile plant eater from the late Triassic period. Of course Kidsdinos.com had a page with their charts and graphs HERE. Encyclopedia Britannica has a rather technical article about the dinosaur HERE. Dinosaurs.about.com has a short piece HERE. Animal Planet has an article HERE. What I find interesting is how some of these articles have the period of this dinosaur slightly different, though the majority seem to say Triassic. EnchantedLearning has a fact sheet HERE and has our dinosaur listed as early Jurassic. You can check out the AgeofDinosaurs.com page HERE. Of course Wiki has an article about this early armoured dinosaur HERE. Our colouring page came right off of deviantArt HERE. Thank you zakafreakarama
