Happy 3rd Birthday Echo

Today is the day… she is really a toddler now at 3 yrs old! Where has the time gone??? Our Echo Serenity is now a going concern… In 3 short years she has had heart surgery, changed countries, learned to talk, walk, hold a pencil, climb, left a trail of broken hearts and created a following of loved ones who find her absolutely irresistible. Happy Birthday my pixie baby!!!101_4116

This is the dress Trinity wore to Jon and Yoyo's wedding way back when I was PREGNANT with Echo... I love the chance to use something so beautiful again!

To the End of the Week

…And then something came up… and our plans went out the window for today… BUT it is worth it when the “thing” is a call from a contract who wants Ken to do something new on top of the current agreement for more money… well we don’t complain (at least not too loudly). One step closer to paying off another debt… or maybe even getting myself that Cricut the van put on the backburner. Who knows.

So we spent the day at home, the tutu was picked up and the kids kept relatively busy. Emanuel spent a nice amount of time dead silent downstairs on their computer.  Always a bonus when he can find something to do with himself that is quiet!!

Emanuel on the computer

The twins have worked some more on their word search for their wolves lapbook, done some of their Chinese New Year print outs and Zander got in some workbook time. This time there were two print outs from Enchanted Learning. One a mini book and the other a matching of the zodiac animals. The plan for tomorrow is to actually work on near completion of the wolves lapbook as we are finally heading to the zoo for the drop in program on Sunday.

There are quite a few things in my life I am sure of: my sewing, my love for my family, my marriage. And then there are things I am not so much scared of as feel… timid about. And tomorrow I have to face one of those things. The girls are headed to their new pediatrician. Don’t get me wrong, I am VERY pro doctor. But a horrible experience with a formula obsessed doctor and our Trinity has me nervous. He was belittling and determined to diminish the importance of our decision to be a bottle free family. We proved him wrong with our addition of solids but the damage toy own confidence remains. A big part of me is angry that he simply would not listen. I talked to other professionals, I did my homework and he still talked like we were idiots. I raised preemie twins who you would never guess now were born at just over three pounds. But I was a moron in his eyes, or at least that is how he came across. Our children all are petite, especially as infants. But my worries always fall in people refusing to see that pattern.

I have to admit I am taking a bit of the cowards way out, Ken and I have discussed it and agree that it would be best if I didn’t go to the appointment. This is actually a much easier way to go about it as if I DO go so do ALL the kids, which means containing all 5 of our kids first in the waiting room and then later in the examination room. So Ken will be taking the girls on his own while I spend the afternoon on that lapbook I was mentioning with the boys. I will breastfeed Miss Echo before he leaves and pack a little container of her cereal and some water in the diaper bag in case of a lengthy wait at the doctor’s. Ken feels  that my worries are unfounded but as the breastfeeding mother I have to admit the previous doctor’s callous dealing with us felt like a personal attack. Breastfeeding is one of the greatest gifts I can give my children and it often feels like medical many practitioners no longer see it the same way.

So tonight I plan on finishing the stitch I posted an image of last night and maybe starting one from the zombie kit I got from my sister in law. The kids went to bed at a pretty decent time after our first family game night – a new game they got from their Aunty Yoyo and Uncle Jon using Play Doh. We will have to work on it as we are not completely up on all the rules. The goal is to have every Tuesday night be game night with the kids – IF they behave appropriately!

Gavin (Zander red)

I just can’t believe how quickly the week has gone by! Now hopefully by Monday we will be all ready to head off to the conservatory to see that new feature pyramid display. Fingers crossed!

Whirlwind Weekend

What a weekend! And I seem to remember saying this weekend would be a QUIET one, NOT!

So Friday night was not bad, Saturday morning we took the whole family out to the free craft session at Michaels. They used a new Crayola product – a sort of clay type thing called Model Magic. They simply softened it up and then pressed their hands in to make a handprint. I loved the way they turned out and am planning on picking up a container of the stuff to use to make prints of Echo to give to a few people for Christmas. Lightweight and nice and durable I definitely think it will make a nice treasure.

Crafting (Gavin blue)

After our craft we ran out and about shopping… Dollarama, Bulk Barn. Which I must say is THE PLACE for spices! Add to that a 3.00 off if you spend 10.00 coupon and we were sitting pretty with treats to boot. I think we will head back soon enough to get more. They have cake and cookie and brownie mixes that I have Christmas present plans for… potentially!

After a nice nap (for Echo and myself and I think Emanuel and Trinity) the big excitement arrived – after over a year AUNTY ESTHER was on our doorstep, as fabulous as ever!

Fabulous Aunty Esther

She was in Grenada for a year to get her masters and we missed her dearly. The boys remembered her and Trinity warmed to her before too long, but it was Miss Echo who stole her heart this visit with her willingness to snuggle in for a nice cuddle and her tiny little frame. Ken and I were just so glad to see her in the flesh and have the chance to really catch up. She stayed the night and left late this afternoon so all in all it was a terrific visit.

All 5 Kids (Gavin left)

We sit and wait now – to see if she gets a job here in the city we live in or elsewhere. No matter what, having her back in Alberta means we are able to see her much more often. Something all 7 of us (I am sure) are VERY thankful for. Emanuel was quite sure Aunty Esther didn’t NEED to leave… after all how could she WANT to?

While Esther was still here we had Yoyo, Jon and Yoyo’s mom come by for a visit to meet baby Echo. Then Yoyo’s mom and Jon took the boys (all 3 of them!) out to the grocery store to get snacks! So kind of her. Which let me get in a little bit quieter visit with Yoyo. Apparently her mom is staying longer than originally planned – until October, so I am sure we will get in a couple more visits! The kids do love it when people come by.

As Esther was preparing to leave Nathan and Ada arrived with Baby Anna. So we got in a nice long visit with them too. Anna is almost 3 months old now! And certainly makes Echo look tiny! We are still keeping fingers crossed that the weather will warm up one last time so we can go out for a picnic with them. Last year the weather held into September, but this year… who knows!

GodMommy Ada and Echo

So TONS of visitors this weekend, and activity… this upcoming week looks much less hectic so far. We are still trying to get in that first paediatrician appointment for Echo, and Ken has a laundry list of beginning of the week calls to make (nothing new there). I am still rather surprised that the end of the month is here! Where did the time go? Ken and I are working on making up the basic bodies of some felt puppets for the kids to decorate tomorrow using a template, and I have the last of our gardening stuff to wrap up and the lapbooks to assemble… the forms are basically ready for faxing for our board registration tomorrow and life is certainly moving on at a fair clip! I am hoping I can sneak in some time to bring up my pre pregnancy clothes, sort through the baby girl box for anything newborn (still too big for Echo) AND get a bit of the downstairs cleaned… my brother and his family are supposed to be coming by beginning of September for a visit after all.

And don’t forget photos of baby… definitely want to take more of those! Oh for more hours in a day!

Two of my girls 🙂
