Speech, Parenting and MORE Cookies

Emanuel and I joined the twins for their speech session on Monday. Gavin was absolutely amazing, he said BEAD, BALL and mouthed BUBBLES! They were both wonderful with signs though Zander was rather evasive. All in all we are seeing great progressions in their speech. Then she proceeded to push preschool – which I am SURE they are not ready for – they are not even 3 yet! and to say I should have put them in Sunday School even though I talked it over with the teacher and we agreed that we should wait until next fall. UGH Just when I am impressed with them over there in Public Health… she also said we should get rid of naps. After all HER kids didn’t need them past 2!
I think I am doing well by my kids, I am not isolating them but I am also not going to traumatize them just cuz the therapist is pulling examples from her own kids. I know my kids!
Anyway today the twins were in a bit of a mood and lately the baby has had trouble falling asleep. Ken is napping before his night shift and I am getting in a little WoW. Baked some more cookies and made some more dough. Tomorrow I ice them. Hopefully I am towards the end of baking cookies.
Here is a quote I received today enjoy…
One never notices what has been done; one can only see what remains to be done.

Warm Fuzzy Christmas Story

This will give you a warm fuzzy feeling
Beautiful story…. makes you understand that things happen for a reason.
The brand new pastor and his wife, newly assigned to their first ministry,  to reopen a church in suburban Brooklyn, arrived in early October excited about their opportunities. When they saw their church, it was very run down and needed much work. They set a goal to have everything done in time to have their first service on Christmas Eve.
They worked hard, repairing pews, plastering walls, painting, etc, and on December 18 were ahead of schedule and just about finished.
On December 19 a terrible tempest – a driving rainstorm hit the area and lasted for two days.
On the 21st, the pastor went over to the church. His heart sank when he saw that the roof had leaked, causing a large area of plaster about 20 feet by 8 feet to fall off the front wall of the sanctuary just behind the pulpit, beginning about head high.
The pastor cleaned up the mess on the floor, and not knowing what else to do but postpone the Christmas Eve service, headed home. On the way he noticed that a local business was having a flea market type sale for charity so he stopped in. One of the items was a beautiful, handmade, ivory colored, crocheted tablecloth with exquisite work, fine colors and a Cross
embroidered right in the center. It was just the right size to cover up the hole in the front wall. He bought it and headed back to the church.

By this time it had started to snow. An older woman running from the
opposite direction was trying to catch the bus.. She missed it. The pastor invited her to wait in the warm church for the next bus 45 minutes later.
She sat in a pew and paid no attention to the pastor while he got a ladder, hangers, etc., to put up the tablecloth as a wall tapestry. The pastor could hardly believe how beautiful it looked and it covered up the entire problem area.
Then he noticed the woman walking down the center aisle. Her face was like a sheet.. "Pastor," she asked, "where did you get that tablecloth?" The pastor explained. The woman asked him to check the lower right corner to see if then initials, EBG were crocheted into it there. They were. These were the initials of the woman, and she had made this tablecloth 35 years before, in Austria.
The woman could hardly believe it as the pastor told how he had just gotten the Tablecloth. The woman explained that before the war she and her husband were well-to-do people in Austria. When the Nazis came, she was forced to leave. Her husband was going to follow her the next week. He was captured, sent to prison and never saw her husband or her home again.
The pastor wanted to give her the tablecloth; but she made the pastor keep it for the church. The pastor insisted on driving her home, that was the least he could do.. She lived on the other side of Staten Island and was only in Brooklyn for the day for a housecleaning job.
What a wonderful service they had on Christmas Eve. The church was almost full. The music and the spirit were great. At the end of the service, the pastor and his wife greeted everyone at the door and many said that they would return. One older man, whom the pastor recognized from the neighborhood continued to sit in one of the pews and stare, and the pastor wondered why he wasn’t leaving.
The man asked him where he got the tablecloth on the front wall because it was identical to one that his wife had made years ago when they lived in Austria before the war and how could there be two tablecloths so much alike.
He told the pastor how the Nazis came, how he forced his wife to flee for her safety and he was supposed to follow her, but he was arrested and put in a prison.. He never saw his wife or his home again all the 35 years in between.
The pastor asked him if he would allow him to take him for a little ride. They drove to Staten Island and to the same house where the pastor had taken the woman three days earlier.
He helped the man climb the three flights of stairs to the woman’s apartment, knocked on the door and he saw the greatest Christmas reunion he could ever imagine.

Deck the Halls and Bake the Cookies

I really feel like the Christmas season has begun. Last night was Emanuel’s very first Christmas party and our first one of the year. We went over to Sharon and Darryl Bleau’s for their party. Amanda and Jeff were there with their kids too. This was the first time I had seen their youngest Catherine since she was a wee baby. Amanda had only seen Emanuel in passing in the Walmart parkinglot and had not seen the twins in about a year. The twins were a little scared at first but once they found out where the toy room was in the basement and got used to the girl they had there watching over the kids they were off playing almost the whole time.
The present opening while the kids were up there was hectic to say the least. I was so proud of the twins waiting patiently for gifts that we gave them permission to open. We let them help us with ours and Emanuel with his. Emanuel does not really understand what he is supposed to do with them yet. The twins got some clothing and books. Emanuel got clothing, books and a toy that vibrates and giggles. I got some really lovely votive holders and votive candles and a wonderful bathset. Ken the lucky ducky got a Wii!!! Darryl and Jeff went in together to get him one. They were not able to get their hands on one for him yet so they gave him an empty Wii box with a card in it that said HAHA SUCKER! So he will be getting one when they can find it.
So now we are discussing how we would budget to get a better tv. The one we do have we got with wedding money almost 6 years ago! It is rather out of date to say the least and definately does nothing with HD. Although I would love to run out and get one we do have to keep in mind that even with postponed payments we will need to make payments. So I am going to check out what is going on for Boxing Day/Week sales and deferred payments. Then we would take Ken’s tax return next year and put it on there. It is doable though I am unsure of how our credit rating is right now with all the problems we have had… and I think that deffered payments take that into account…
We made it to church today – it was the Sunday School Christmas program and very cute. After church we dropped off the cookies to the Daveys and Bleaus that we forgot to take Saturday night and then went shopping at Superstore. The twins used up the last of their share of the Great Grandma MacLean money and got a huge toy dog each. Ken is now looking for a Wii game for himself and I am holding onto mine. I think I will wait until I get to the city and get a new fancy hairpiece. Ken’s folks decided to mail us money instead of gifts this year since shipping is so high so we are undecided what we will use it for, maybe I will get the twins the scooters I was thinking of. Or maybe something else…
My mom is off at my brother’s still. Apparently they were taking her to Heritage Park. The weather is THAT nice! we actually have had some lovely warm weather lately. So Ken’s driving at night to the store to work has been fine and Saturday’s shopping downtown was not too horrible, we even walked a block or so. I am basically done my shopping. We need to order my dad’s gift and stop at the dollar store with the twins to get something for my mom but all that is left is shipping. So people are going to have some late arriving presents. We have to gradually send stuff off as shipping is rather steep.
Tonight I plan on making another batch of cookies dough and then doing the cooking tomorrow night. On Wednesday I want to stop at Radio Shack so I can pick up a Snowman that flashes different colours according to music when you plug it into your pc. It was one of the Chinese exchange gifts. Ken got a bottle of wine and I a bottle of nonalcoholic drink. I also have to go to M&M Meats to get the stuff to make dinner on Sunday – the Den Otters are supposed to be coming over for a little Christmas party. I am thinking lasagne. garlic bread, salad, maybe brownies for desert?
Hmm so much tidying to do again – when you go out and bring back more stuff there is always some rearranging to be done. Laundry to put away of course… but in the twins’ room so I have to wait until they are up from their nap. Actually Ken went to snuggle with Emanuel and I had better go and wake him up before his raid on WoW. LOL he would be upset if he was late for that!!!
