Birthdays, Immunizations and Yearly Check-Up and it is Only TUESDAY!

Well things are getting back to normal – was it ever a busy weekend though! We are officially the parents of 2 THREE year olds and 1 ONE year old! Where has the time gone???
The party – well the party went REALLY well. Sadly my brother and his girlfriend could NOT make it but my Grandma MacLean with my Aunt and Uncle and Cousin Veronika in tow. Both of Ken’s supervisors and some of their kids made it (though not the wives) and a bunch of our friends, my mother and her boyfriend, even Emanuel’s godparents and our god-daughter all made it. We took a TON of pictures (I put a bunch of the best pictures in an album here) and even some videos.
In the morning Emanuel and I went to the rhyming program in the morning before the party. The theme was dinosaurs, there was singing and rhyming and stories and even a craft – that I did most of. There were not too many people there but Emanuel had a blast looking around and watching the other kids (mostly girls). While we were at that (this is the first session of 5) Ken and the twins got our mylar balloon filled. We decorated when we got home with Karyn and Kathy’s help and then the guests started trickling in…
All in all it was a rather full house, our 3 kids, Isabella and 3 of the supervisors’ plus adults. We had hamburgers and punch and cake and presents. The cake was wonderful, I got one of Emanuel’s first photos placed on it. There was some playing of the Wii and chatting and general visiting. All in all a rather good party with not TOO big of a mess to deal with. We still have some of the decorations up actually.
Sunday morning Ken and I took Emanuel to get his pictures done at Walmart. He did really well though one side of his curls was flat and the other curly! We put him in an outfit our friend Jason sent us from Hong Kong and then the onesie his Aunty Kathleen got him from her school. We also brought his Lees-McRae teddy to be in the pictures. It is SO MUCH easier to get his pictures done then wrestle with the twins. Luckily my mom was able to come over and watch them. It turned out that if James and Cindy HAD come we could not have gone swimming anyway – the pool was closed for lifeguard competitions. I would like to take JUST Emanuel some Wednesday but need to get the pool schedule.
Yesterday we had Emanuel’s one year booster shots. Mom came over and watched the twins again and afterwards we picked up a bbq’ed chicken and a birthday cake. Yup, ANOTHER ONE! We gave the twins some small gifts (mom got them Lincoln Logs and we got them each a little tool set) and we sang happy birthday and had some cake. It was nice, quiet and fun. I did take pictures of course!
Today we had all 3’s yearly check-up. Emanuel got a clean bill of health and is to have homo-milk added to his diet. I am going to give him the cereal with yogurt in it and then move him into the milk itself slowly. He is on the lower percentile of whatever chart they use for weight but the doctor says he LOOKS fine – healthy and pudgy and well prepotioned. The twins, on the other hand, still have some fluids in their ears… ugh… so we need to schedule another set of hearing tests. They are doing well in other things. He wants us to keep up with the speech therapist (duh) and work on the potty training – but to leave it until Gavin is over his constipation. If that does not clear up soon we have to take him back in. But really a MUCH better check up than last time. Emanuel goes back at 18 months and the twins at 4 yrs.
I don’t know if I mentioned it but Emanuel got his second tooth recently as well. We need to make the twins’ first dental appointment soon too. I have NO idea how that is going to go… but I can guess… not overly well… although, they were troopers about weight and height as long as they were right with Ken. Much better than last time. All they had to take off was their shoes and coats though. They even sat well while he looked in their ears – a definate first!!
So all in all a pretty good few days – a little stressful but in the end we all had fun. Go figure!

Day Before Our Baby Turns One…

I can hardly believe it has been almost a full year since Emanuel was born! And then 2 days later the twins turn 3!! Where has the time gone?? This is most likely my last entry until after the party since tonight I have to pack up the laptop so it is not on the couch.
First of all – the weather is not helping right now. My brother and his girlfriend and at least one of our friends (Kathy) are at question as to whether or not they will make it here. The roads down south are not good today – it keeps on snowing so as both groups were planning on coming up today that has been tabled, we will see if tomorrow will co-operate. My uncle Ken who lives near my mom’s mom called today to say if the roads are good tomorrow they will be bringing my grandma, they live halfway between us and everyone else out that way. So fingers are crossed.
Ken is going today to pick up the cake and food, tonight I have to cut up all the veggies and get the place as decluttered as possible. I have two nice plastic blue tablecloths, one to go under the kitchen table and the other the picnic table so I am hoping on keeping the food mess contained. Kathy was supposed to get here today to help decorate, I think Ken and I will do as much as we can before he leaves for work tonight and then hopefully she will get here in the morning to finish up. I still have to take Emanuel to a library program that starts tomorrow and Ken and the twins need to get the mylar balloon filled as well as pick up any last minute stuff.
If James and Cyndi do NOT make it after all we are unsure if we will go swimming or not on Sunday, though we do still need to get Emanuel’s pictures taken that morning. I am bummed about them maybe not coming but glad they are staying safe. What really matters is that Ken and I and the kids are together – right?
We did make it to the city to do some shopping, I got a new hairpiece – longer with some curls. I am thinking I will wear it, I got strawberry scented bath gel from the Body Shop instead of my usual citrusy one (Valentines thing I guess) and we did make it to Toys ‘R’ Us. It was a quick but good trip. We met Alan, Xinny and Isabella and they came along with us.
Hmm I should get some stuff done while the house is quiet – after we checked on the twins and found Zander out of crib, we re-bedded them and they have been sleeping since and Emanuel just had his breastmilk and is at nap. I cannot do much without Ken home since I do not want to get dealing with food and then have to stop but I can organize. THAT I am good at.
I should add pictures of the party beginning of next week!

Monkeys Monkeys EVERYWHERE

Zander darn well scared my pants off yesterday! Ken was home for a longer lunch and all 3 kids were to nap when I heard a really quiet noise – looked towards the hallway and there was Zander with his doggy toy!!! He had managed to climb out of his crib without making a sound, opened the door and out he came. The look on his face was like… ok here I am done with that. He was NOT happy when Ken picked him up and put him back to nap. There was crying for about 15 min and then they were out for around 2 hours. Now this is troubling, earlier this week Zander was climbing INTO Gavin’s crib when Gavin was on time out and then NEITHER of them wanted out and wanted Emanuel in. Now that he can get out… toddler bed? Course we do not have room for all their toys out here so that means getting rid of even more… and then there is the worry about them getting out of the room and us not hearing them… oh well not this weekend, with the party, swimming and my headcold. We are going to watch and see if he does it a couple more times and then take them out to Walmart or something and get railing and special "big boy" comforters that will fit their beds better. It worked with binkies – we got them special pillows for big boys.
Last night we did a bunch of shopping, cleaned up some more and my mom trimmed the twins’ hair. Ken is going to go over it again to make sure it is all even and done Friday. This morning we had our reading session again – not much talking but lots of interesting games and information. I am so not looking forward to naptime today though I could REALLY use a nap. Ken and I figure the only way to get Emanuel to sleep more through the night is to put up that curtain between our bed and his. I really need more sleep.
We are to go to the city today… I did try on swimsuits last night but nothing fit any better than what I have so I think I may just go with it and keep my fingers crossed there are not structural failures.
Ok muzzy headed and sniffly I really need to go and sit down quietly while I supervise the boys… they are being a little stingy sharing with Emanuel. Fun Fun!
