Working Toward the Homecoming

October 2-6

I swear we are on the road to completions lately! Following up on Trinity’s math workbook finishing Emanuel wowed us with his Addition book being done! Well done my boy!

We have also started our story starters with the twins… I am hoping we can make up a nice series of stories all by the boys written by themselves. I simply check the spelling and correct it underneath. I am finding their creative spelling quite amusing!

I need to type some of these out... not too bad on the mistakes even!

101_4725It was rather exciting to actually finish our Lions unit! The assembly was not the quickest but we had a blast doing it! Be sure to check out our resource post HERE.

With October comes Halloween so we had to work on our black paper drawings. This time we are working on smaller images to include in our garland making.101_4729

Thursday was another rainy day so out came the rainy day fun bucket, folder games and anything else I could think of to spread across the floor and get the kids playing and learning and keep them from fighting!101_4730

101_4731Emanuel is working hard on his math! Friday had us working on the BIG math book… the same I did with the twins (a Canadian book), it is rather interesting to see how he picks up on some things faster just for watching his older brothers!101_4733

He even drew his own skull thanks to Art for Kids… again check out their link on the right side of my page.101_4734

Egypt made another showing with another story.101_4737

And Echo built us a house!101_4738

Our weekend was a special one! First Saturday of the month – HOME DEPOT! This month the craft of choice was airplanes! Talk about fun!

They were so excited I couldn't get the pic to focus!!!

Gavin made me a slurpee out of Legos too!!101_4741

Sunday School had the twins bringing mustard seeds home in tiny adorable jars.101_4742

So not the most exciting weekend… but we make do and make memories! Oh… and eat a melon fresh out of the garden! 101_4744

The Willowdale Romance Short Story Collection

Unlike other anthologies by Lisa Scott, the first in the Willowdale collection is only 3 stories long. In The Willowdale Romance books we follow the romances of 3 young women who become friends in the first story. Tonya from New York is first, a hairdresser and a catalyst, Jeanne the chef and Kate the local girl are friends in need of love. However, like her other romances… each is a short story, complete (for the most part) standing solo… except for the final that ties everything together. There is a common thread to be found in these, of course as I mentioned above, and the usual humour mixed in with romance.

Willowdale is a southern small town complete with a barber shop of dubious quality, gossiping biddies, and a couple of dishy brothers. The ending of the trio of stories is very different and no less entertaining than Lisa Scott’s other stories. Very unexpected! I loved this series of stories almost specifically for the ending. The characters are fun and well fleshed out. There is history both shared and not and a touch of wry humour when it comes love.

Contemporary romance in quicker nibbles, the Willowdale series is a wonderful afternoon read. I, as always can recommend Lisa Scott’s books whole heartedly. You can find my other reviews by typing Lisa Scott book reviews in the search engine on the right of my page. Romance with an ending I certainly did NOT see coming… be sure to check out The Willowdale collection for some contemporary fun that is neither overly graphic nor completely angsty.2940016111100_p0_v2_s260x420

Did We Blink Somewhere?

September 30-October 1

Seriously where has the month gone??? Blink and you may just miss September this year!!

Of course Monday meant back to school… and we seem to finally have  gotten a bit of a rhythm to our mornings. So much so that I am finding we zip through things I figured would have taken longer and are having less and less anxiety or questioning of how much must be done or what is next!101_4704

We have some lovely art on the go in our ever ongoing journals…

Trinity finished her first month calendar set…101_4706

And her 1-12 counting book! Total smiles on that one.101_4707

Of course we had to find time to play… Legos in the sunshine… Farms in the basement…101_4708

101_4710Ending the day with a lovely big brother moment. Gavin offered to brush out Trinity’s hair and did a marvelous job!101_4711

And that was that for September moving us into October and our final countdown to the return of Nana and Baba from their 5 weeks of exotic travel. Date home – the 10th!

The first of the month was also the beginning of our Pizza Hut reading program for the year – BookIt. We watched a special author read story HERE.101_4712

We had Miss Echo in on the fun.101_4714

There were stories read…101_4716

101_4717And a science project to reboot… celery did not work so instead we used a carnation with dye.101_4718

Lunch was fun and fresh with fruit both canned and freshly cut up.101_4719

Our crafting for the day was fingerpainting. Although Echo had to be coerced and Zander refused outright.101_4721

I am really excited about the new reading program for our year. This year all 4 of the schooling kids are involved. The twins are trading off on reading to their brother and sister. Emanuel is reading absolute beginner books with me. Trinity is listening to stories with me and then drawing a little picture to share her story in her recording book. We are all going to work on our skills, hear some amazing stories and celebrate our growth as fledgling readers. Watch that library card go!
