Oh What a Week We Had

August 11-15

We really are seeing some lovely sunshine and warmth this month.101_9146

101_9147 101_9148 101_9149With Nana and Baba back from Florida and prepping for Mexico (3 weeks) it was the perfect time to satisfy a Nana craving – CORN ON THE COB!101_9151

Time for Shark Week (which I am going to admit did not STAY a week… stretched the whole month really). As usual we started with what we knew before starting. I was quite proud of the length of this list. I have, of course, made a blog post with all our information… list of the Discovery shows we watched… I will post that by the end of this recap of August PROMISE.101_9145 101_9152

We have really focused on yard work in our afternoons. Time to get the kids active and outside. And time to enjoy the sunshine before fall is good and upon us.101_9154 101_9155 101_9156 101_9157

Of course I covered Echo’s 4th birthday on this blog entry HERE. I think we had a good day!101_9169

The next day it was back to sharks… sharks… Wild Kratts… oh and more sharks. I did have to be rather careful what shows we watched on Discovery this year. There was a mocumentary and some that were over dramatized. There were even a few that were seemingly people putting themselves into the danger unnecessarily… wedded most of those out. Even the kids were unimpressed by people getting into the water with sharks when they don’t have to.101_9235 101_9144 101_9241

We had to draw a thank you picture for Gammie for the Mixels. The boys are getting quite accomplished at recreating these with pencils and colour.101_9246 101_9251 101_9244

Our cursive practice has become a constant part of our day now as well… not the easiest thing to learn but I figure necessary.101_9245

We had a mini fashion show with some dresses Gabbi left Trinity when they cleaned out to move. Adorable! Trinity absolutely fell in love with the hat and wore it constantly even with how warm it has been!101_9247

Of course Echo needed in on the photo action.101_9250

Nana and Baba gave Echo her birthday present on Friday as well – an adjustable basketball hoop.101_9252

And then out to dinner at Culvers! After all… Nana and Baba are off to Mexico within days!!!

101_9256Seriously though, we are back outside as much as we can!!! SUNSHINE!101_9158 101_9160 101_9237 101_9238101_9243

Labour Day Weekend and Beyond

August 31-September 4

Labour Day Weekend was a rather sedate one for the Reinsch-Johnson Family. The lengthy time it has taken to try and import our van has meant some compromises on vehicle usage and travel time. So instead we spent our time at home enjoying each other… well for the most part… until the kids gave me the PLAGUE! Amazing how quickly a sinus cold can knock you out of commission.

Lots of time for the kids  to enjoy the pool on Saturday.101_4402

Then on Sunday home came Nana and Baba with a quick visit with the cousins, Aunty Faithe and Uncle Joe.101_4407

For Labour Day itself we went for a nice family walk to see a bit of the neighbourhood and (hopefully) wear out the kids.101_4408

101_4409Ending with a dinner of corn on the cob with Nana and Baba.101_4411

101_4412We had a rather special Tuesday… Shandai needed our assistance with her job at the Illusion Theatre. They are doing a multimedia presentation later this month about love and marriage and needed children to give their opinion… and who else has a whole crowd of?? Shandai had us and another friend’s son who was the same age as Trinity. They had a blast!

101_4415So our week started off strong but so did the countdown to when Nana and Baba are leaving for Costa Rica. With just one more full day left I let the kids go on school work and put them to work spending time with their grandparents and taking it easy. The boys ended the evening with their own boardgame time. They did a GREAT job following the rules and NOT fighting.101_4416

Ken drove them to the airport early Thursday morning and it was back to learning and all things quiet and boring for the most part. But more on that later… for now I have to say, our Labour Day Weekend was nothing especially amazing but it was a great time with our not so little family.101_4413

Dressed Up and Photographed

August 9-11

Trinity is on a roll with ANOTHER completion of her PreK books! I am so glad she is grabbing on and getting going with these. I do not like to move them forward until they get that previous year’s work completed. After all review is ALWAYS good.101_4029

I love that even on an overcast day or during a down period the kids will sit down and work together lately… Gavin and Trinity read through our National Geographic Kids animal cards!101_4030

Of course Echo is always game for a book with good pictures… this is the dinosaur book that later one of the twins read to Emanuel and then worked on a picture for his dinosaur binder. It is almost time to bring that out of its hibernation and get back going… I really need to work on posting all our back dino blog entries too!!!101_4031

101_4032The weekend was sunny so we grabbed as much of it as we could.101_4035

Dino dig!

Dino dig!

And when it was time to go inside we had a craft symposium around the round table.101_4041

101_4042Then back outside to shuck corn! Nana and Baba found a little stand with some rather tasty ears.101_4046

Our weekend ended with us finally making it to a new church that is going to be our church family until we settle on our location and new home. Time to register for Sunday School!! Sadly we won’t make it to the church again until Sunday School sign up but it was fun to meet some new people and get a feel of a service.101_4047

After church we drove home and stopped at this lovely walking path at the end of our street to take our yearly photos. I do so love when we get a chance to dress ALL of them up and take pictures. So enjoy the surplus images!101_4051
