Oh Canada…

How we miss you! And how the boys asked so politely to do a FULL unit on you. And with that… time to share our resources!!! It is mostly a book like, but I figured… time to get this puppy posted. Remember to research interesting topics… I would suggest the following:

  • Inukshuks
  • First Nations
  • Beavers
  • Dinosaurs
  • RCMP
  • Kermode Bear
  • The “new” Territories
  • Canada Geese
  • Poutine
  • Maple Syrup

The list goes on! Good luck and enjoy.. eh.

BOOKS (and there are a few!)

DVD

  • Families of Canada from the Families of the World series. The link is to the 2015 version. We had the 2005 one from the library.

Of course we used Activity Village for resources and did lots of colouring. Education.com has a bit, HERE is my collection. It is well worth it to do a search on dinosaurs found in Canada. We used to live near the Royal Tyrrell Museum which is an amazing dinosaur museum with some very new finds. Do check out their site HERE. Macleans also has a 10 coolest dinosaurs article to get you started HERE. Check out Global’s piece on a new dinosaur find HERE.

It is really past time for me to post this! So I am glad to get it up. I am sure we will cover our homeland once again in 2017. With it being a landmark year (150) I will try to find some interesting ways to learn even more about Canada in all her glory. Wish me luck!20160629_190711

Tanystropheus

…And we are back to the dinosaurs while I sort out pictures for blog posts and proof others. Company, end of summer and back to full day school have slowed me a bit… but I promise to continue catching up!

#3 on the Dinosaurs.about.com’s list of the top 10 weirdest dinosaurs is the VERY long necked dinosaur Tanystropheus. In fact, scientist believe that its neck is as long as it could be without the dinosaur completely defying physics!!! While not technically a dinosaur this archosaur was found in the Triassic period in Europe and the Middle East. It is actually thought that it would have used its head and neck much like a fishing line.

Our videos! First… Dinosaur Safari (Late Triassic) Clip #11: Tanystropheus by Kyle Hartman.

And the second, Tribute to Tanystropheus by ArchosaurKing.

Prestosuchus

Sorry there is no image for this one… Just links etc. But one more long due post is up and running! Enjoy the random dinosaur facts in July!

Emanuel does enjoy the unusual dinosaurs. I went onto Fantastic Dinosaurs HD, the iPad app and picked out one of the weirder Triassic critters. The Prestosuchus is neither a dinosaur or a crocodile but something called an archosaur. Found in Brazil, it had very powerful legs and was thought to be a fast runner. A carnivore, it was quite the scary looking creature.

Our video for the day was Dino Moments Prestosuchus WMV. I will warn you there is a screen shown from 45-56 seconds of the individual (Stephen Pearl’s) website link and such that I did NOT peruse. What interested us was the images from the Royal Ontario Museum’s exhibit.
