Torvosaurus

This “savage lizard” is one of the largest known Jurassic therapods. The Torvosaurus is found in North America and is a rather intimidating carnivore. There is some debate as to whether or not it is actually a dinosaur on its own or a version of another due to the lack of a complete skeleton. An intimidating and fierce dinosaur Emanuel was quick to point out that it looks A LOT like a T Rex!

So again, two videos! We started with I’m a Dinosaur and ended with a short fight video of the Torvosaurus vs an Allosaurus!

Ok ok time for the links! Dino Directory sets up up with a great visual on the size of this beast HERE. The Dinopedia covers our dinosaur HERE. DinosaurKing has some stats HERE. Dinosaurs.about.com has an article HERE. EnchantedLearning has a fact sheet HERE. Carnivora has an entry HERE about our dinosaur. Wiki has their say HERE and you can find our colouring page HERE we actually used our NHM link for that.

Torvosaurus

Elaphrosaurus

A lightweight lizard from the Jurassic period, the Elaphrosaurus was found in Africa. This carnivore ran on two legs and is a bit of an unknown. Fleet of food but so much lighter than other carnivores it would have been reliant on speed over power to catch and eat its prey. Once again this is a dinosaur picked from the I’m a Dinosaur list…

We found an interesting paleontologist named Dinosaur George who has a question and answer series of videos about various dinosaurs. This is the episode with a question about our dinosaur. Emanuel definitely wants to check out his site to see if he has more items of interest.

Now I do not have many links about this dinosaur but here goes… Let’s start with the fact sheet on EnchantedLearning HERE. The Natural History Museum has a rather interesting drawing with some great charts on its site HERE. Prehistoric Wildlife has a helpful article HERE. There are a couple sentences at the Jurassic Park Wiki HERE. AgeofDinosaurs.com has a page HERE, though I noticed its map seemed wrong… Our colouring page can be found HERE and of course Wiki has their page HERE. Hopefully this helps our dinosaur fanatics out there.

We do enjoy our rainbows

Microraptor

Time for our 4th Chinese dinosaur… the Microraptor. This carnivore was rather unique with its 4 winged limbs and its claws made especially for climbing. Not only was this dinosaur at home in the trees but it FLEW! With its full out feathers many have questioned if it is the link to birds! An early Cretaceous period dinosaur it was a predator in the air but in great danger on the ground.

Our video is from the series Planet Dinosaur.

Of course there are some links to share. Emanuel was rather enamored with the feathered back legs… there is a great image of that HERE. Dinosaurs.about.com shared their knowledge HERE. Dinosaur Facts has… well facts about our dinosaur HERE. The Natural History Museum has some points of interest HERE. National Geographic has an interesting 3D model on their site as well as an article HERE. Wiki has their informative article HERE. Discover – the Magazine of Science, Technology and the Future has a rather in depth article HERE. This article covers the colour and sheen of the feathers… we did not cover this as it was over Emanuel’s head but the bit I skimmed seemed very interesting! You can find our colouring page HERE.
