Sunshine Added

I do love a bit of yellow in a project whenever it is possible. I feel like one of the kids constantly reciting the colours of the rainbow… red… orange… yellow…IMAG2134

And bright yellow it is, crocheted during class. There is something highly calming when you have a nice repeating project in your hand while dealing with children who are VERY unwilling to let go of the Christmas crazies.IMAG2133

IMAG2135I have committed to no more than a colour a day to force myself to continue with other projects, today’s list: a dishcloth (also in a yellow) and the body portion of a large doll. We are also dealing with a major reorganization so there is all sorts of clutter to deal with so please forgive the less than tidy backgrounds behind the project.IMAG2147

Progress Already!

January 2nd was another busy stitchy day. This rainbow project is by no means the ONLY project I have on the hook, but it is my brightest and biggest. Also on the list are dishcloths, hot pads, an 18 inch doll, a prayer shawl and a lucky orange tree.

Good company, some fun cartoons and kids’ movies later and I am done the second stripe of our rainbow. AND I managed to get the full list of colour names for those who are interested!

  • berry
  • carrot
  • bright yellow
  • Kelly green
  • navy
  • mulberry

All in all a gorgeous series of colours.

Sadly the yellow was resistant to having its end pulled... the kids say it puked yarn!

The third was definitely a day of no work on this project, airport drop off and more going on. BUT I look forward to further progress in the following days and weeks as I add more projects to the docket and take some off as I complete what I can. But for now, berry and carrot are done with bright yellow next!IMAG2122

A New Year and A New Project

Happy 2016!

Not only has a new year begun BUT so has a major project that is utterly exciting. A dear friend has asked me to make a lovely rainbow ripple blanket for her. She has chosen the colours, the yarn brand and we worked together to find a good pattern (of course I will alter it slightly, remember who you are reading about!). Along with this journey I have decided to make a photo journal. So let’s start at the very beginning – January 1st!

Of course it was time to break out the yarn and lucky enough, they fit nice and snug in the box they were mailed in. The central colour of our rainbow, the colour all the other colours were picked around was the lovely orange. Talk about vibrant and gorgeous, it is one of my favourite oranges ever. The brand for this project – Bernat Super Value. And 6 lovely colours – red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.

I wish I could get that green colour right in the photographs. I promise to try different lights and get it right eventually!

First step was to find hook and pattern and start the chaining.

So many chains... 178 to be exact!

And then right into it. I couldn’t believe how easy this was to get off the ground with the right count and everything. In the past I have found it a bit frustrating to get the chaining right. Not a problem this time. And my final measurement was 47 inches instead of 40, so a nice big snuggly size with a 5.50 mm hook.IMAG2099

So… a good start to a new year and a photo project I am beyond excited to share. If you want to make one yourself the pattern I am using is Rainbow Ridge Afghan by Yay For Yarn Patterns on Ravelry HERE.

Two rows as suggested in pattern was nice...
