Suchomimus

Process is being made on catching up… but first… a look WAAAAY back at another dinosaur.

We are enjoying the unusual dinosaurs lately. Suchomimus is another of these. This “crocodile mimic” is a carnivore and a piscivore (fish eater… a new term for us!!). This Cretaceous period predator was found in Africa. Only one incomplete skeleton has been found. It had long front arms to grab fish, a long snout and large claws… like a crocodile that could walk on two legs!!

Lystrosaurus

You do NOT want to know how old these resource posts are!! EEP! But we did love every minute of our dino journey. Sadly I was not on the ball and pre-loading a cute kid pic for this one. BUT I hope the info comes in handy!

The “shovel lizard” Lystrosaurus came to our attention strictly by looks! It straddles the reptile and mammal (like) groups with its unusual characteristics. This VERY successful animal was found all over the world. A herbivore, it was found in the early Triassic period with concentration of fossils in Southern Africa, Asia and interestingly enough… Antarctica! The size of a pig, it is stout and short… ran on four legs and quite the comical looking creature. You can also see this dinosaur on the iPad app Fantastic Dinosaurs HD.

Our video is called Walking With Monsters: Clumsy Lystrosaurus posted by Hritzness.

And for our links… for such a prolific dinosaur we really had a limited number!

Tylosaurus

Well shoot, no cute kid pics, but a good set of resources for an animal straight out of the cretaceous period and myself one step closer to a cleaned out draft folder!! Enjoy!

Dinosaurs are a staple in our homeschooling life… I think Emanuel is a life long addict to the world of the prehistoric. The Tylosaurus is a rather interesting ocean dweller. Considered to have born live babies and been an active carnivore It was far from the top of the food chain. Found in the shallow seas of what is now North America this Cretaceous period critter is quite the interesting character. This Mososaur “knob lizard” was not a dinosaur but lived along side of them.

Our video is from Prehistoric World 2013… Sea Monsters a Prehistoric Journey(2007).
