Public Health UGH

We took Emanuel in for his shots on Wednesday and the nurse about jumped down my throat about him not being on solids yet – he is JUST 6 months and our pediatrician said no worries GO SLOW! She was talking like he was going to keel over the next minute. It was all I could do to NOT wind up and smack her. All the advice she gave was counter our wonderful pediatrician so I help my tongue and vented to Ken. GRRRR
He was a trooper and feeling better today, the twins sat like angels. We go back at 1 yr. Hopefully to a DIFFERENT nurse. I totally respect and appreciate nurses and what they do for us but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE listen to me, especially when I say my pediatrician says something. She said he was chubby and looking great in the same breath where she was bemoaning a possible lack of iron and wasting away.. good grief. Even friends with preemies waited til almost a year. When Emanuel tells me he is ready I will give him solids – I know the signs – look at the twins, I think I know what I am doing. They did not have solids til a year.
The van is acting up now – so Ken is pushing up the search and talking about maybe taking a job at night after the boys are in bed to off set the cost of leasing if it is too high. The problem is they are on the cusp of a raise … so it would be temporary … but we do need a safe vehicle. This does not mean our trip to the city and shopping is not going to happen on Saturday. We will just be aware of the van needing to be babied.
There was a plot to blow up planes foiled today in Britain so the regulations are tightened big time – at least for now… We have decided to go and buy a flimsy umbrella stroller as we do not want to risk losing the big nice one to security. No butt cream on the flight since all gels and liquids are banned for the foreseable future. I will have to call before I pack and double check where they are at with rules and such. Thank goodness I have a loving helpful step-mom who is on top of all this for me. They picked up a stroller/carseat combo this week so I do not have to fly with the seat. One less thing to worry about. I will have to label my luggage with some sort of address label besides the one they give you to put on. Packing tape and a recipe card I guess. Just when they were losening up and going to allow nailclippers again they take away everything cosemtic and toiletry… some flights in the UK are not allowing carry ons for now either! YIKES.
Well it is late and I am tired and tomorrow the twins will be wide awake so off I go…

Planes, Wagons and Automobiles!

Last night Ken and I ordered my plane tickets. My MIL (Mother-In-Law) sent us a link to Orbitz.com and we managed to save $200.00 from our original price by changing airlines to NorthWest and leaving on the 4th instead of the 5th. So we are still working out the details – still no work on Ken and Germany though on the company site the date of the convention has changed from the 2nd-5th to the 1st-3rd. What is comes down to is how long will we need someone to watch the twins while we are both potentially gone? My mom is booking off the 4th-7th so we do have her available but it is alot to ask to have one person handle the two of them alone – trust me I KNOW LOL.
I have to call Toys’R’Us today and check on the availablity of the wagon we want to get the twins for their 2 1/2 birthday party on the 19th. I think the plan is to go to the city this coming Saturday to do some baby clothes shopping, pick up the wagon, go to Michaels to get some craft supplies and get me an actual nursing top as well as stop at Old Navy to check for clothes for me. I hate to spend so much at once but we did get the Family GST cheque and we do need to get stuff at the best price possible. Ken and I are debating getting a Costco card and doing bulk shopping once a month when we come to see the Den Otters anyway. Anything to cut costs especially since we have heard whispers of a duplex opening up in the future… for $100.00 more than we are paying now but it would mean we could get rid of our storage unit ($40.00 about) and give us MORE ROOM plus laundry (not more quarters YAY). So fingers crossed and prayers said…
It has warmed up on us again so the van is a bit of a cooker. Thank goodness we are not going anywhere really this week, though Emanuel is off for his shots tomorrow.
Life is looking a little more cheerful today… the baby is napping and the twins are playing somewhat nicely. Count my blessings today

Sleepless Nights and Rainy Days

Well I did manage to change the theme of the page….August is definately here.
I am really starting to wonder if weather changes can impact the kids. Last night the twins seemed to get more awake and rowdy the later it got… as for Emanuel – that was our own fault – we put him down to nap at 7pm and let him sleep until midnight! Oops… but he also had not pooped all day so was grumpy. I think the tylenol we gave him the night before thinking maybe he was teething or something constipated him. This morning alone he has has two poopy diapers THANK GOODNESS!!!
We took Emanuel for his 6 month check-up with his pediatrician Dr. Saini. I love this doctor. He really listens to us and is willing to discuss different ideas. He was called in when Zander had his seizure and had no qualms at saying this was beyond his expertise and shipping him onto the Stollery. Well, Emanuel is growing right on track – he is now 16lbs. 7oz. (7460 gr), his head was 43 cm and his length 64 1/2 cm. Dr. Saini said he thought everything was on track and to take solids slowly when we do start them. LOL we learned that the hard way with the twins… we had to take them OFF of solids the first time we tried them as they threw up too much and we were worried about a weight loss. Emanuel is more and more alert but still not really showing enough signs to worry about it yet.
I think Ken is planning on purchasing my plane tickets this weekend… my Step-mom and sister are hunting down a carseat so I do not need the added annoyance of bringing ours down… they have tracked down a portable crib for the time we are up in the mountains to see Kathleen run. I have my laundry list of stuff I need to pack and an idea of what items I need to purchase before going up – I know it is 2 months away but if I start looking for things like walking shoes and shirts now I can watch for sales. Ken still does not know if he is going to Germany or for how long but we are working out the details of basically all the scenarios.
Ken did talk to our landlord who mentioned he may have a duplex opening up soon BUT it is between 600-700 dollars plus water and gas and we are really not sure we can afford that without a raise… the realities of… well reality. UGH
