Frustrated but Guardedly Optimistic

So not motivated today… woke up to a cranky hubby, cranky kids and a not so warm and cloudy day. Certainly not the start I had envisioned for my Thursday. The weather managed to make it easier to write off going to the homeschool park date. Neither Ken nor myself was in any frame of mind to be sociable to begin with and the mom I know best there was not going herself due to the cooler weather. So that was off our “to do” list for the day quite early on.

Morning basically blasted away with a whole lotta nothing our afternoon followed suit. Emanuel’s nap was abreviated due to the neighbors hacking large branches off their weeping willow that is on its last years. He came out telling me they were “Making noise to me” so I figured we would let it go as a lost cause.

We did have one exciting moment – Emanuel is now in posession of his very own shiny blue scooter! We returned the one to Walmart last night and got a different one from Toys R Us. It has a basket (which has the envy of the other two) and HAD ribbons hanging from the handlebars (Ken cut those off BEFORE Emanuel saw them). He was so proud… a truly big boy moment! What was rather entertaining was watching Ken put it together the night before – true to form for this family, one of the sides of the rod for the back wheels was a little bent so Ken had to magic it better but it works. And all for 39.99 plus tax. We were lucky, they are about out of scooters at most of the stores around here – especially the 3 wheel variety.

We managed to get our ladybugs done today. Last night the boys painted one of their paper plates black and the other a colour of their choice (Green for Emanuel, orange for Gavin and purple for Zander). Today we cut the different coloured plates in half for wings, I glitter glued some black circles I punched out of construction paper (we don’t have the felt the directions called for)the night before and the boys each got 3 for each wing to glue on. We then used fasteners to put the wings on and hot glued on eyes on a black half oval of construction paper, that in turn was hot glued to the plates. And there you go – ladybugs. Next is caterpillars – I am going to punch out circles with a punch Karyn lent me and we are going to make new signs for their bedroom (or as Emanuel calls them – their livingrooms) doors with their names on them! That will be this weekend or Monday with our trip out of town tomorrow.

Ken finally broke down and emailed the company in regards to his meeting… apparently there was a mix up – the owner who he met on Tuesday had said to the supervisor he had talked to on the phone in the first place that he would call Ken by yesterday… and then today asked the supervisor if SHE had  talked to Ken today? AS Ken would say /confusion. Long story short – we will deal with it tomorrow but things are looking TENTATIVELY positive and my mom is lending us her cell while we are out of the city so they have a number to contact him with (Mom has no land line). So TOMORROW I will have some sort of report to share… and trust me I WILL!

Tonight we were spoiled – Ted is back among us. He had a short notice visit from his dad for the first time in 4 yrs (the last time he was in Alberta was when Ted and his brother Ash was living with us and the twins were babies). A 2 week visit which meant no Magic or D&D, so sad face Kenny. or as Ted says 🙁 Kenny. The kids were over joyed when we went to pick him up. I had to head over to my local stitching store anyway to discuss threads and Ted lives down and across the street from there! Emanuel was so excited he couldn’t stop saying hi! Add in Sean and the 3 of them are Magicing it up as I type!

So for a cruddy type day it ended up really not bad. The kids had ice cream cones (well the boys), Trinity stole carrots and potatoes from our bbq veggies… Ken has buddies and I have my sewing… Tomorrow balances out with the dreaded physical BUT spending the day back home with my mom, her dog, her hubby and the rest of the stuff we remember from living there ourselves. Here’s hoping the weather behaves!
