Beginning our Week

One would think that after living my ENTIRE life in Alberta I would be used to the weather… well this morning we woke up to a bit of a travesty in the eyes of Ken and the kids – SNOW! Not a ton but enough that our walk to the gas station is on hold and the bikes will remain put away for the nonce. I am remaining tentatively optimistic that we will still have our sunny weather for the day before Easter and the hoped for OUTSIDE egg hunt… but will plan to have it in the basement if not.

Not unusual but still...

My occupation for today has been to work on the Lucky Stars I bought the special strips of paper for months ago. Ada was not up for a visit this weekend so I hunted down a couple videos (1, 2) and written directions and gave it a go. So far only 3 wasted papers and a few of them a bit lopsided but I think I am getting the hang of it.

The kids had a busy crafting day with lots of colouring, cutting and painting. If we can’t have spring OUTSIDE we are certainly enjoying it INSIDE. Lots of flowers and bunnies and today the beginnings of a May basket. Zander was even able to tell me how to get his wished for pink paint when we didn’t have that specific colour available (red and white of course). What a great feeling to know that SOMETHING sticks! We also made up a bunch of the mini books they have been working on which will be put into their Spring/Easter lapbooks.

Tomorrow the hope is to complete even more projects… for Ken to go back to BANK and see how things are going and for the kids and I to keep busy! Maybe the snow to melt? Maybe? Ken is finally keeping busy… which is exciting but nerve racking at the same time. It will be a little while before I can give out all the information on that but at least he is positive and that is HUGE for us!

OH and the big news for the extended family: Mike got an award for his work last year at the college! Very well deserved: Betty Ostenrud Award “An award established by the Augustana Student Association to recognize the staff member who, during the academic year, contributes the most time, energy and talent to the life and furtherance of Augustana, U of A.” YAY MIKE!

I love it when you get news like this at the end of the day – a great reminder that the world is NOT out to get everyone and good things DO happen to everyone. Now to get back to my sewing and Lucky Star making!

One of the best things to ever happen to us!

  1. I love your lucky stars. I would really like to make some but can’t quite picture it in my head. I am going to try looking up the liks you gave. Do you do teabag folding? If not could we maybe do a little stars/teabag folded swap between us? Only if you like teabag folding of course! :>)
