Rainy Day, Yet Fun Ensued

…and back comes the rain with a vengeance! And up came my sugars after a not so balanced breakfast. I woke up feeling ill so had two pieces of whole GRAIN toast with a bit of butter and went back to bed… 7.0 when I should have been 6.7 or less… so not super high but still DARN. I have my next clinic appointment on Wednesday so of course the worry sets in… but 6 bad readings out of 28 is darn good… especially since I KNOW why each was high. I certainly have a whole new respect for those with diabetes for the rest of their life! It is certainly NOT simple.

So today turned out to be a simpler day than expected. Trinity’s appointment was cancelled due to an emergency at the clinic so we are waiting on rescheduling. This worked in my favour as it allowed me to go back to bed and rest an upset tummy. BUT with the rain and the thunder has kept the kids INDOORS… I am a bit put out about that as they have been dying to get back into the backyard. Thankfully Ken managed to get out to the far end of the yard and use the weed whacker and get rid of the tall weeds by my raspberries late last night. I already have started collecting a few berries! Hopefully we get a fraction of the amazing crop we got last year!

I have started putting the finishing touches on our thank you cards. They are not very “baby” but cute all the same… I figured I would make something that if I DID have extras of would work for something else. And all I had to buy was a dollar’s worth of ribbon! Oh and the use of Karyn’s Cricut. I also did the two pages for my dad’s visit earlier this month! Again copious use of the Cricut! Today I have the pages from our mountain trip AND my mom’s portion of Canada Day to do up. OH and the ultra sounds from Baby #5 are printed and awaiting creativity!

We spent our rainy afternoon working on completing some of our gardening and camping activities. I am hoping to start putting together the camping lapbook this weekend or Monday. If it would stop raining long enough for us to do our nature walk and trash hunt (we are going to hide the items of trash in the backyard for the kids to find and then explain how they should NOT leave these items around). We have so much rain right now that our front yard has MUSHROOMS for the first time ever!

After the main thunderstorms passed I sent our crew out to splash in the puddles and get absolutely SOAKED. After all can’t waste a big puddle can we? They started out in rubber boots and sandals (Emanuel’s boots are too small) and ended up barefoot and wet…

The forecast does look good for tomorrow and a visit with Grandma and her local splash park. I think the plan is to head there for the day and then Sunday maybe have some company in! This has been such a rainy week it feels almost wasted, but the plan for next weekend is to bring out our Leisure passes and get over to the local Fort… in between my two doctor’s appointments and the one library session the kids are enrolled in. With the time passing so quickly I am getting rather desperate to get us out and about, especially to the pool before the baby is born.

Well again with the crafting tonight and some more baking… oh and cleaning… enough with the procrastinating!!

Zander and his creation for the day!

  1. It sure looks like you have some great ideas for crafty projects with the kids. It must be difficult to manage a pregnancy with gestational diabetes as well as other small children but you seem to be managing very well.
