Pachycephalosaurus

So in celebration of FINALLY getting back on board with our (hopefully) daily dinosaurs with Emanuel I am posting a few of the ones that have been awaiting editing and such to go up on the site!!! So please enjoy a look back at our own personal paleontology internet dig.

Some dinosaurs are simply interesting to look at, and the head of the Pachycephalosaurus is no exception. Found in the forests of North America, this herbivore had some of the carnivore characteristics that remind us of the T Rex… the upright posture, the smaller front legs… From the Cretaceous period, this was the largest of its species and while its head could have been used to fight it is actually believed that the Pachycephalosaurus would have made use of its large hind legs by running away.

Now for videos… the first is a question and answer period with Dinosaur George. Sadly, the link he gives for the intriguing Dracorex does NOT work.

Our second video was an unrealistic but entertaining excerpt from a dinosaur game… Trinity and Emanuel enjoyed it at least.

Oviraptor

Emanuel really loves those omnivores. The Mongolian Oviraptor has had a bum rap for a potential omnivore. Originally found on a nest of eggs, Paleontologists actually miss understood what they found and thought this ostrich like dinosaur was an egg nabber! Further study actually discovered that the eggs this dinosaur was found on top of were not the eggs of a different dinosaur but proof that the Oviraptor was a rather protective parent. This Cretaceous dinosaur had a sharp, toothless beak and may have been covered with feathers.

Our video for this one can be found on the Discovery website HERE. We had a second video from the National History Museum with a Dr. Paul Barrett that you can watch on their site HERE.

On the Edge of a Big Day…

June 14-15

Mere days to go until a rather special day… if you can believe it, this year the 16th is not only our anniversary (12th!) but also Father’s Day!

But before that we had to end out the week and welcome in the first half of the weekend. On Friday we worked together with books, plants and Father’s Day learning.101_2510101_2509

101_2517Of course we spent some time outside… I love watching the kids work quietly at the same time.101_2511

We have been watching movies at night from Studio Ghibli. I had the kids draw pictures of their favourite movies to date. Gavin and I share the same favourite… Spirited Away. He reproduced the movie box cover!!!101_2518

We even snuck in a Wild Kratts!

Woodpecker
