Quiet Sunday Ramblings

Sundays are always quiet in this house.. more so than usual today. With most of us still fighting off this cold and the weather frigid and snowy there really is not much to rush around for. Sadly with all the runny noses combined with the weather we did not make it to church. That makes two Sundays in a row (last Sunday the twins were very sick and cranky – not good church going behavior).
Tomorrow is the boys’ language assessment at Public Health. The little bums are still refusing to speak English though they seem to be very happy to speak to each other and us in "TwinSpeak." Granted they are not yet even 2yrs old gestationally (born at 30 weeks – 10 weeks premature we have to figure that in for now when trying to determine what they should be doing… their due date was in April no less) but their pediatrician wanted us to have an assessment as getting on waiting lists for help can take an eternity. Hopefully they can give us some ideas as to what to do with the boys at home, though I would not be against either having someone come here once every so often or us go there on a regular basis for some learning through play. I swear part of the problem is they know mommy is a push over and that I can interpret their personal signs, sounds and actions and respond to them as almost second nature. But no use worrying until we get the results – right – LOL easier said than done.
One thing I have found frustrating about "growing up" is that the only thing calendar wise, to really look forward to is the weekend and the odd civic holiday which is over before you truly get to enjoy it. I miss working towards a summer break. I think I need to corner Ken and see if we can plan a mini vacation. We just cannot forsee a trip to Minnesota this year with an infant and two toddlers, but I would love some sort of a vacation. I guess we will wait and see how things go after the guys finish this major project at work – apparently they are "fine tuning" and fixing bugs. Ken promises me that after they complete it he WILL be at home on time more often… something I know the boys will love. I swear they KNOW what time he should be home and time their worst behavior around it.
I do have to give Ken credit – he is an amazing father – he makes time for the boys when he gets home no matter what and though Emanuel prefers being with me he does make alot of effort to cuddle and play with him too – once his brothers are done using him as a jungle gym. I still do not know how he carries both 30lb boys down the stairs and out to the van. Who needs a gym membership when you have toddlers?

Winter Wonderland

Winter is STILL here… we had a snowfall warning last night and it is still snowing today. Lots of the fluffy white stuff laying on top of a layer of slippery ice. We are definately going to have to get some new tires on the van before our trip to the city in a week or so.
Last night Ken and I watched Howl’s Moving Castle… It was so funny. I think my favorite Miyazaki film is still Spirited Away. We have also seen Kiki’s Delivery Service, Nausicaa, Castle in the Sky and Princess Mononoke… I would have to say Princess Mononoke was my least favorite. The next one I would love to get my hands on is Whisper of the Heart or The Cat Returns. So I now have a minor dilemma – we only borrowed HMC so I can either buy that DVD or get Cinderella which I am pretty sure is going back into "the vault". If only I could buy EVERY movie I want hehe. Add to that the Lady and the Tramp coming out this month as well… so many movies.
Anyway, today was snow, snow and more snow. We did invite my mother over to visit for a while and then watch the twins for 30 min or so so we could run out to the store to get some things. Until the weather improves getting all 5 of us into the van and out to do chores is a chore in and of itself. Oh to have clean sidewalks so I could take out the strollers. I had bought a Maya Adjustable Pouch from a wonderful vendor on eBay…but it just does not seem to sit well on my frame… well this wonderful lady has offered to exchange it for the sling version of which I am getting the Chambray Blue. Ken sent off the pouch yesterday and once she receives it back she will ship the sling. Since Emanuel loves being held and carried so much it will definately be a life saver.
I am on the road to recovery health wise. The sore throat is gone leaving me with a stuffy nose and feeling lethargic. Thank goodness for Motrin at bedtime and lots of warm baths with the boys’ vapour bath. I love the Gerber baby products, so nice on the skin and lovely scents. We use their shampoo on the big boys all the time. One bottle seems to last FOREVER.
Wow beyond "Mommy stuff" things are going rather slowly for me.. I have taken up cross stitching again and for once for ME! I am doing a Teresa Wenzler pattern called Rapunzel. Lots of work but it is really shaping up. Not sure when I will be able to frame it or even if I will keep it for myself in the end… who knows maybe the perfect occassion will come up connected to someone who will absolutely treasure it. I still owe Ken a Monopoly board – poor guy has been waiting for years. I had ordered linen in the right size but it turned out to be the wrong colour and is now to be used for Christmas presents that I hope to start soon.
This is also the 2 year anniversary of the day the boys were brought home from the hospital.. hard to believe that they were once 4 and 5 lbs and we were trusted to bring them home! Cordless babies as Ken put it, and today they are around 30 lbs a piece and active and loud and so grown up. What miracles they are.. even in their "bad" moments they are two of the best things to ever come into my life.
Ken and I were talking in the van today – I remember back in college how I was worried about money and we were sure we needed to work towards that large paycheque… when I look back the happiest moments in my life had nothing to do with money. There is nothing to beat the moments after Emanuel was born. That pure joy of welcoming our newest child into our lives. That is one of the reasons why I think his name is so appropriate – he is a constant reminder that God IS with us!
And on that note… here is our St. Patricks Day picture – our 3 boys in green. Enjoy!

Sniffles and Sore Throats

First off – Happy St. Patricks Day. For a Friday we are rather low key here today. Runny noses on the twins and a sore throat for Mommy…but we ARE all wearing green.
It is funny how much easier it is for me to find a moment to type here when I am having trouble getting time to sit down and write in my journal. After keeping journals for literally 13 years I am starting to think I may have to face facts – I simply do not have the time to drag out the book and the pen and sit and write, though I am able to type with a baby in my lap. Thank goodness for the ability to multi-task.
Next week is actually going to be a busy one! We have a friend down from Calgary for 5 days, the twins are getting assessed for language skills, we are getting our taxes done (hopefully a nice fat rebate???), rescheduled Twin Group meeting at the indoor playground… AND we get to pick up our baby announcements which means I will be hard at work writing labels and such. What fun.
Now if only I could get 8 hours of sleep in a row – oh well one Emanuel sleeps through the night so will I – I hope !!!
But for now I have a Beef and Gravy slow cooking recipe to check on, two stinkers to change and put down for nap and a baby to cuddle – What a Wonderful Life … seriously!
