Wood Burning Stoves and Fall Weather Fun

What is it with us keeping busy weekends? And not everything got done that I had wanted… not a huge surprise. BUT we managed our trip to the John Walter Museum. Today was the drop in program and scheduled for the day – baking with a wood burning stove! We got there early so the boys and Trinity spent their time waiting for the guides to be ready running all over the grounds. A brisk day but not too horrible.

There were two wonderful guides – an elderly lady and a lovely pregnant woman who were there to teach us all about using the stove and making butter! This was rather amazing – they took a jam jar and put some cream in it and handed it to the boys to shake… 20 min or so later and there was a lump in the jar and some milky water… butter and buttermilk. You separate the two and rinse off the butter (this is to stop it from spoiling) and TADAA!! Butter!

In the meantime the boys got right to work helping out making scones… adding things, stirring and asking a million questions a minute. The ladies were great answering them and dealing with the boys’ exuberance. Thank goodness it was easy to send them and Trinity back outside to run wild. Though Gavin was faithful until the end, remaining at the table. We also had just enough time (after sampling the scones and butter), to help out with the making of Irish Soda Bread dough before we had to head back home.

This was all after our morning at church. The twins headed off to class and Advent service practice while the babies and Ken and I went down to the play-school area. They have rearranged it AND gotten some new toys so the kids were in heaven. Though Trinity decided halfway through that she would rather return to the sanctuary to walk around and watch what was going on. So by the time we were done at the museum Trinity was exhausted and Emanuel cranky but we were definitely educated on the wood burning stove. Well worth it.

I did up a beginner cross stitch today while at church and driving to the museum that will soon be up as a freebie on the site! 3 colours but a great starter piece. Simple and pretty. So keep an eye peeled!

Other than that I am spending my evening crafting it up… and hanging out with Karyn who is heading home tonight after a weekend hanging with a friend. So off I go!
