Mid-week Quiet

The reality of pregnancy and cold weather… my USUAL winter coat does NOT fit… solution – Ken’s HIGH SCHOOL letter jacket… why does  that feel so wrong?

Not a baby bump to be seen!

So today was a more “back to normal” day for our family. Ken sent me back to bed THREE times this morning on the pretext of catching up on sleep while he and the boys cleaned, played and generally enjoyed the ability to be home in our OWN home.

We started our 5 Senses and Apple lapbooks today with word searches, colouring and a fill in the blank style book. And of course the best part – a trip to H&W to buy a nice variety of apples to taste test tomorrow. At least one variety I am rather sure I have never had before!

A selection of apples

Supper is a favourite of the family – a recipe of my step-mom’s that she gave me when I got my lovely slow cooker as a birthday present back in 2004 or 2005. Beef and Gravy, though we double her recipe and always serve it on the other family meal favourite – RICE!

Good’n Easy Beef’n Gravy

3lbs. beef roast, cubed

1 envelope dry onion soup mix

1/2 cup beef broth

10 3/4 oz. can cream mushroom (or cream of celery) soup

1. Combine all ingredients in slow cooker.

2. Cover. Cook on low for 10-12 hr.

Variations:

Use 1/2 cup sauterne instead of beef broth

Add 4 oz can of sliced mushrooms, drained.

Absolutely NO left overs!

After the past two days’ confusion, stress and activity today’s lack thereof has been near blissful. It won’t last (as we are all aware the “curse of Ken” looms heavily though we are hoping on its decreasing of potency) so the trick is to enjoy it while we can!

Trying to enjoy in a tidy manner.
